A very special Lightning-Cranfield 11th October 2008

Post by bigcrow »

With thanks to Fighter Control, we got invited to Cranfield yesterday to view the only two-seat Lightning in running order here in the U.K, and what a beauty she is....

What a lovely selection of shots! Looks like they were very accomodating and even the weather cooperated.

A superb set of shots. I like the angles.

Stunning set Stu.

The Cranfield Lightning must be the best looking one we have in the UK imo. Great paint job and immaculate too.

Thanks for the comments guys it's appreciated. A big thank you must go out to the owner Russell Carpenter & his ground crew, who were most accommodating for us throughout the day. Even down to positioning the aircraft to pin point accuracy for the sun, for us perfectionists....

Looks very much like Tony Hulls in the first shot. Credit to him - I believe he owned her originally and was responsible for saving her from the blowtorch... And, having shot this beauty twice, I do agree that they are indeed a most accommodating bunch. Nothing is too much trouble...

A nice sequence, btw...

Lovely set. IMO, that has always been the best looking Lightning in private hands. I first saw it in 89/90(?) whilst doing some flying at Cranfield. Such a shame they are not allowed to fly it!
