Bridgeport, Connecticut by Night and Foggy Day!

Bridgeport, Connecticut by Night and Foggy Day!

Postby sylvancatharsis on Sun 22 May 2011, 11:59 pm

There was a small "Wings & Wheels" event at Igor I. Sikorsky Memorial Airport in Bridgeport, Connecticut this weekend. I bought a VIP photo pass which entitled me to night shoots on Friday and Saturday and early morning access to the airfield. The weather didn't cooperate. There was a short flying display, but the light was crap and the weather played foul, so no shots of that.

Friday night we shot a UH-34 Seahorse. It was supposed to be a P-40, but it got weathered in at its base on Long Island.

They also ran up a Pratt & Whitney R-4360 for us.

Firing on all cylinders!

On Saturday night our subject was a B-25 Mitchell

Or if you prefer black & white…

You might be interested to know that the inspiration for the night shoots was the myriad of these types of events in the UK! I hope it catches on.

And onto the daytime shooting. One pleasant surprise was this Grumman Mallard. I’ve always thought this was a beautiful aircraft.

As I said, it was “Wings & Wheels,” so here’s a bit of both.

Having a VIP pass meant more than just night shoots.

…and here’s the lucky Twin Beech that got to bask in all that glory

…and with the C-54

The aircraft in question is an MS760

This Howard DGA-15 came out of the hangar just in time for a very brief period of sunshine.

To give you an idea of how bad the weather in New England has been, this blimp has been socked in at Bridgeport for over a week now.

It does, but sadly, funding is becoming a major issue and it may not much longer.

Thanks for the comments all; I'll post some more '25 shots next week when I'm on my home computer again. Sadly I've few good shots of the Seahorse, as the rotor wash was wreaking havoc on my tripod!

Not the greatest photo ever, but a special aircraft for me as my father was a gunner on Ravens. This one is under restoration.
