Snafu Out & About @ Duxford - 15Jun12

Postby Pen Pusher on Fri 15 Jun 2012, 9:14 pm

Stu Goldspink took 'Snafu' up for a bit of an airing in the rather blustery/windy, but warm with it, conditions late this afternoon. As per normal with war birds, it was a bit of an air test to the north of the airfield before returning for a bit of aerobatics. Stu came in to land on the grass strip and rolled to a stop and parked up and the aircraft was towed back to the hangar. I've been informed it was shut down only as a precautionary measure for a minor tech issue which has since been resolved.

Really looking forward to seeing this at Legends. Just hope that whoever flies it doesn't give all the topsides to a certain place!

Wow what a beaut, and great shots. You can see why Spitfire pilots thought that the P-47 was massive!

Very nice Brian. The man next to the P-47 in the first shot is tiny as it is. Almost everything is bigger then him! Sorry Roy!

Unusual to see the "stars and bars" under both wings, isn't it? Accurate?

And the skin on those wings looks very wrinkly.
The name's Smythe. James St. John Smythe.

Very.

Many of the thunderbolts in the ETO were given this marking for added identification.

Always good to hear from someone who knows what they are talking about rather than the armchair experts

I knew that the stars and bars were sometimes marked under both wings of P-47's in the ETO. Great to learn that I'm not just another armchair expert!
