Great set - visited last year and loved it. Think you went the right way to make do in the conditions, I tried using a tripod and longish exposures but the lighting in the carrier exhibit changes too much too quickly.

Liking the Vixen shot - the animals of the ark royal quiz kept my other half entertained!

Thanks, I knew in advance that the carrier exhibit was dark, but I didn't realise it was THAT dark!

I was quite surprised when I saw the Vixen, I didn't realise it was part of a quiz

I'm quite keen to have a look round Cobham Hall now.....

Yeah there are random stuffed animals all over the place, like a badger tied to the glove of the deck crew in front of the Phantom, a vampire bat in the vampires' air intakes, a black cat in the Hellcat's intakes - now if you ever go back you'll be looking!

Very good museum, but not so good for photography, particularly Hangar 3 which has some of the better exhibits!

Sorry but I have to disagree with some of that statement. To say it`s not so good for photography is doing the museum a great diservice. Yes parts are challenging, but that`s where effort and patience are needed to be rewared.

Personally speaking I`d say it`s one of the better museums I`ve been to for photography. Here`s a few quick edits from my first visit last year.

Great set of photos there, looks like you have got one heck of a flash gun !! It is a very good museum, I was there only a couple of weeks ago to see the Falklands aircraft exhibition, Cobham Hall is well worth a look if anyone has not been there before, not sure when its open next but that will be on their web site I would imagin,
cheers for posting these,

Sorry I should have clarified my comment in more detail, what I meant was that your average punter with a compact style camera is really going to struggle to get decent shots in most of the hangars beacuse of the poor light, obviously with a tripod or a flash gun you shouldn't really have any problems.

I agree the exhibits are well laid out with plenty of space between them, but the lighting is pretty poor in 3 of the 4 hangars. Cosford and Newark have much better available light.........

Thanks, yeah I've got a Canon 580 flash gun which does the trick, if I'd had the time I'd probably have used a tripod, but I was trying to fit 3 museums in a day as I'm not from that area of the country.

Apparently Cobham Hall is open in August, though I'll doubt I'll get back down that way so soon after my last visit!
