Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar Nightshoot 17 Nov 2012

Postby umea4 on Sun 18 Nov 2012, 11:25 am

A most enjoyable evening at the Heritage Hangar with two Spitfires, a Harvard (that made an impressive amount of smoke on start-up) and a Cub. Engines ran, and best of all the evening finished with fish 'n chips. Thanks so much to the whole team there for organising such a friendly event.

Great set Anthony.I was wondering if the Harvard was the one that was based at Rochester and if so is it in flying condition

Hi Graham, Andy and Colin,

Thanks so much for the great comments - much appreciated.

Colin, the Harvard does look like the ex-Rochester one in your picture. FE788. It details are on the Biggin Heritage site:

As to whether it is flyable at present, I don't know. Anyone from BHHH care to answer this?

Cheers,

Anthony.

Really like that first one Anthony, did you use filters for that or us it in processing?

Cheers,
Jeff.
I know you think you understood what I said, but I'm not sure you realise that what I said is not what I meant.

Thanks for the comment. You guessed right about a filter. I used a 2 stop ND graduated filter (Lee 0.6 hard). I strongly recommend ND grads for adding a bit of interest to skies, especially when working on a tripod. The alternative is to combine two exposures (one for sky, one for foreground) using layer masks, or go the HDR route, but I prefer to use an ND grad, and get it all into a single frame where possible.

Having said that, the last picture, of the pair of Spits, is an HDR in order to hold some very bright highlights on the aircraft.

Cheers,

Anthony.

These are top notch! Especially the ones of the Cub! The Harvard by the way is airworthy and yes it used to be based at Rochester a few years ago. The chaps at MAPS restored her for the current owner.

Top work, nice and sharp too. I've tried working with a welding filter once with some interesting results!
