Cosford's "Butcher Bird"

Post by Timc »

Following on from a heads up kindly mentioned by DanO yesterday, spent a quick 20 minutes photographing the recently displayed FW-190 at RAFM Cosford during my lunchbreak.

Very nice machine too!

I believe it was moved to Cosford in December last year due to the refurbishment at IWM Lambeth but seems that it was owned by RAFM all along?!

Does anybody know the history of this particular airframe?

Cheers
Tim

Hi Tim,

Found this on Wiki....assume its the same Fw190 as Hendon has a 2 seater

Wk. Nr. 733685, a Fw 190 A-8 that had formerly been part of a Mistel S-3B composite aircraft (Ju-88H-1), located at the Imperial War Museum in London, England

Cosford is only ten minutes from me, to busy to go though so I think I'll pop in on the way down to the nightshoot next Thurs, most likely to be quiet then too!

Love the first shot.

Another gem Cosford can pride itself on, so it's not going back to Lambeth then? I might have to go and see it in the flesh once I'm back home in December.

Great shots. Another vote for the first one. Looks in pretty decent nick too.

Hi there

She won't be going back to the IWM Lambeth as she was only on loan to them from the RAF museum. She is now back where she belongs and she looks fantastic. Great shots btw

There are a few shots of her before she was moved this week which I took last Friday while she was still in the conservation centre. My post 'visit to Michael beetham conservation centre Cosford' is a few below this post

Cheers

Lee.
