Monino Museum, Moscow 13/1/09

Postby Iain PlanesTV on Thu 19 Mar 2009, 4:22 pm

I don’t often get the chance to shoot stills of aircraft and I’m not usually one for museums, but this place was a must.

It’s not an easy place to get to with little preparation and a Vodka induced hangover. In fact the longer than expected train journey out of Moscow and icy walk from the station meant that the light was fading as we arrived. It also meant that I only had an hour and a half to get some photos before we were booted out (it would take you at least half a day to do the place justice).

I hope you enjoy them and if you feel like identifying any of the less obvious types feel free!

Unfortunately we couldn't get any closer to the Ekranoplan

We were the only visitors and of course last ones to leave...

Well worth visiting if you're in the area - anyone for MAKS?

A shame, because the majority of these are great! Lovely subjects conveyed with bags full of atmosphere. 1, 4, 6, 8, 10-13, 15-17 and 21 are especially nice.

Those are fab...what I would give to go to Russia on an aviation tour. However NOT in January far too cold, and judging by the last pic the opportunity of a bit of a warm look non too promising!

What a great set of pictures. I have got to get there one day - I think I'll make my visit in the summer though

Lovely set. The snow and late light really set them off.

Some beautiful exterior shots there, Iain. With the early morning light they have terrific atmosphere.

Well done that man.

What more can you say, Anakonda, Sukhoi T-4, Bounder, Homer (D'oh), Tu-114, as well as many more "standard types" - fantastic.

Any of the Ye-166

After a quick google ( ), I guess you mean the aircraft below. Although having read this site (http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/performance/q0248.shtml) it sounds like this is actually a Ye-152M painted up as a 166. Whatever it is its a stunning looking aircraft!
