This afternoon at Coventry, it was excellent to see Nimrod XV232 and Shackleton WR963 running again after a few months not running. Both aircraft ran on time and appeared to run well! Well done on the runs today to the teams, and thanks for a good afternoon. I wish both teams the best with continuing runs and look forward to attending their future events - please support them! I would certainly recommend attending future engine runs events!
The Nimrod ran first, and its 4 RR Spey engines bought the expected defeaning roar and smoke at high power. An impressive spectacle!

2. Nothing to be alarmed about!

And after the Nimrod shut down, it was time for the Shackleton to take centre stage and bring the growl back to Coventry
3. Bit of a smoky start

Lovely images, would love to see video of this to capture the noise and atmosphere.
Don't bother running, you'll only die tired!!

Why are the prop tips different port/starboard?

Could that be something to do with the parasites that nicked some?

Thanks all. Think there are some videos on the SPT facebook pages, but you could always come to the next ones to feel the atmosphere
A few years ago now, engine 2 had no props for a while. Then it had the red/white tipped props put on so suspect it is just a different set to the others. They were on before the prop theft in 2015.

For those not old enough to remember it..... (and that includes me)
Until about 1968 the RAF Shackleton fleet had yellow prop tips, then that was changed to the current Red/white tips as per most props nowadays

Fantastic photos Cameron, I especially like the one of No 4 engine as it decided to clear its lungs and start! I was calling it some rather rude names until it kicked and fired up!
The reason for the different prop tips on No 2 is that it is a propeller built with an airworthy set of blades and hubs. As such we didn't want to repaint it and risk ruining it by damaging the surface. The others are all old props with few hours left, and a couple have no logs so can't be used for flight, so we weren't too woried about changing them.
Long term if we can find more usable but non airworthy blades, No 2 prop will be pulled off and go back into store. However, for now we need all four engines with props so it has to do for the moment.

Rich W
