F-104G joins the FPAC Heritage Aircraft Collection

Post by cma »

It took a lot of time and work, but finally, the F-104G Starfighter D-8282 has moved to its new home at Sabadell Airport (LELL) in Spain.

Acquired in 2013 by the FPAC Heritage Aircraft Collection (Fundació Parc Aeronàutic de Catalunya), the D-8282 was built by Fokker in 1964 and operated for the RNLAF at Volkel AB until 1984.

In February 2014 it was dismantled at Budel AB where it was used as gateguard since was withdrew from use, and transported to Woensdrecht Air Base for storage awaiting its final trip to Spain. Last week, finally, was transferred by road transport to Sabadell Airport. On Saturday was assembled by a RLNAF heritage technical group which were helped by some FPAC volunteers and on Sunday the FPAC volunteers washed it and removed the leches a accumulated dirt over many years.

Now, the process of restoration has begun and we’ll keep in Dutch Air Force markings and colors.

The following pic, once already full assembled and clean:

Nice, where is the airport? It is not somewhere that I have previously been aware of.

Cheers for the info. I visit that area in Spain fairly often but have not come across it before.

Are the airframes viewable to the public at the moment or not yet?

For the moment (and until the museum is not open) the FPAC open its gates to the public once a month during the spring and autumn seasons at an events called "PAC Obert" (that means PAC Open in catalan) but you can request by mail visit the collection another day:

On their webpage you can see the calendar with open days, PAC Obert events, and more info.
