In depth Bentwaters Airfield Tour -18th March 2017

Post by John5199 »

Just a small selection of photos from a very enjoyable day spent at the former RAF Bentwaters base recently. Credit must go to Graham & the BCWM staff for arranging the tour and to Benwaters Parks for providing access to so many buildings on the airfield

If you get the chance I would highly recommend a visit to the Bentwaters Cold War Museum located in the old command bunker, and would also recommend going on a tour of the airfield as & when the museum can arrange them.

XV401, owned by the BCWM and located outside their HAS. It's on the list for restoration and apparently will be restored to a 74 Sqn scheme.

View from just outside the secure weapons storage area. They really meant business when they built this place, 3 layers of fencing, pressure pads, 2 massive gates, watch tower and plenty of razor wire !!

Bunker within ! I imagined the inside of the large storage bunkers would just be an empty space but apparently not ! The internal bunker had a thick steel door with 2 separate locks.

Inside the Maverick Missile Building. Sounds like good advice

I don't I'm afraid, never thought to ask  but if Graham from the BCWM is looking at this I'm sure he'll know  Thanks for taking a look through my photos.

Graham here from BCWM :-) , that old lorry has been there for quite a while and was left over from a t.v programme/film.
It looks like it has trench digging apparatus mounted on the back of it.
