Indian Air Force Museum

Postby HeyfordDave111 on Sat 28 Apr 2018, 12:21 pm

Hi,
Having just returned from a holiday in India and Nepal i thought some of you might be interested in the following.

Taken in Delhi, at the Indian Air force Museum, they are snaps taken in a hurry, in 40 degrees heat, and dodging the poor internal lighting and awful sunlight at the time i arrived. I arrived in India at Delhi terminal 3 and took a cab right to the museum which cost £10.00 for the taxi and free for the museum.

After a few security checks, i was allowed in, and although security guards were stationed around the museum, they were friendly and allowed me to cross the rope a few times to take my shots. Quite a nice museum but tightly packed for getting a good pic, but i think i managed quite well.

Look closely and you can see a tail the other side of the fence of an active H.S. 748 which amongst others bimbled out and back during my stay.
In another thread i will cover a terrible shot or 3 from Katmandu airport of their ultra rare H.S. 748, plus an Everest Mil-17, and also the main terminal 3 , Delhi , 'gate guard' of a Mig 27 on a stick.

for now though, enjoy, and if you get a chance to visit this museum, please do, its worth it for the rare metal alone........ :yahoo:

What looks like a very good museum with the airframes looking pristine! Seeing a Lysander, Tempest and Iskra in Indian Air Force markings is bunker as well!

What i havn't posted is the pictures of the other ex-Russian harware, the Canberra, the B-24, the Wessex or Mil-4, and the bits and bobs alleged from shot down Pakistan aircraft too.

Of the Hurricane, the other Iskra or gnat

A super little , if cluttered, museum.

It's a good museum, with some interesting stuff.

Looks like they've repainted the MiG-23, as it was blue (like the MiG-25) when I went a couple of years ago.

Kudos to you for presenting this set of varied shots in 40 degrees of heat! I notice some of the exhibits aren't finished to the high standard of the others. The job-lot of 'pram-wheels' used on the Lysander & Hurricane tailwheel for example? Hopefully a WIP.
Is there any reason why shots 7 & 16 aren't available on here anymore? I've visited your site looking for more of this trip & got into the other subjects instead.
