Excuse my ignorance, but why are Antonovs collectively known with an "AN" prefix, yet on the side of this particular bird it says "AH - 124 - 100"?

That's because the AH-124 is in the cyrillic russian text.....H being an N.
Same with IL-76TA is actually IL-76TD......A being a D...BUT it's not actually an A it just looks like it from a distance!!

Simple really in the Russian alphabet H = N. Some good vantage points you had to shoot this beast Dunc, very nice work. Really like the backtrack shots.
