Amsterdam by night

Postby KoenH on Tue 26 Oct 2010, 6:56 pm

it's the time of the year again........nightshoots at Amsterdam
I'm quite happy with the results from my first 2 visits this week

1. Air France getting ready to leave in the last remaining daylight
Image
2. this year's flightschedule finally gave me some MD-11's for some nightphotos
Image
3. can you count all 5? 2 Transavia's at the remote stands, KLM 747 taxiing in the background, CSA A320 leaving and a KLM 737 arriving at the gate next to me
Image
4.
Image
5. the early evening rush is in full swing
Image
6. an additional bonus was this China Southern 777 taxiing to the gate
Image
7. and lastly, one of the many KLM 737's leaving for the last flight of the day
Image

I hope you like them

What a nice set of photos Koen

No.5 does it for me, nice depth of field and really vibrant colours. The KLM scheme is one of those which is so simple but so effective

thanks for the kind words

this is indeed the normal viewing area.
During summer season, from April? until the last weekend of October, the area is open from 7am to 8pm.
So this last week is real good for us to get some night shots

Koen....

I hope you don't mind me tagging this on to this thread. I have become an avid euro spotter. I have been to AMS twice and loved it. I also on one trip popped along to Lelystad to the museum and airfield.

My question..... what is the general dutch view of spotters and can you recommend any other airpots/airfields to visit on my next trip. Is is wise to email ahead to get access to airfields or can you just turn up and ask ?

I am thinking genearly civilian airfields but any info on mil also gratefuly received.

TIA for any reply ))

Mark (Silverfox),

as far as I know, most smaller airfields, like Texel, Teuge en Seppe are usually very friendly for spotters/photographers. If you contact them in advance, I'm quite sure they can help you out with something

http://www.scramble.nl/airports/index.html
you should check this site. It's really good for logs and expectations of all Dutch airfields and has a lot of detailed descriptions of all viewing areas.
Amsterdam tends to get a big pain in the backside lately, with the best spots closing and all sorts of traffic regulations. By bike or public transport, it probably your best bet to get to the runways (that's what I do as well)

For military airfields, all of them have good photospots. Leeuwarden and Volkel even have official viewing areas. Mil traffic is very slow on regular days, with maybe 2 waves of 4-5 F-16's and a few helo's at Gilze-Rijen. Your best bet is to come over for regular exercises like FWIT or Frisian Flag (or a one-off like the NTM at Volkel)

hope this helps you a little,
Koen
