Aberdeen, Dyce.

Postby alanp on Tue 14 Aug 2012, 7:09 pm

I visited Aberdeen airport for the first time in a couple of decades last Friday (10 08). Spent the morning on the mound on the east side, then a brief visit to the terminal area after the sun moved round. Very busy with constant helicopter action although with a warm day, no wind (I know, in Scotland!) and the rotors churning up the air heat haze was a big problem. The mass of cranes behind the terminal also gave a cluttered backdrop for low level shots so I've canned them. Here's a flavour of what can be seen, excluding the Wideroe Q400 which I duffed and the AN-12 which came after we left.

Nice to see pics from the mound. See you guys stood up there from over in the tower ;)
It's getting very S92 esque here at the moment. BHL have 3 (including the cruddy ex cougar airframe), and it looks like they borrowed one of the Scatsta fleet as well (G-IACB), as for CHC they seem to be getting a new airframe every other week!

Thanks for posting

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to ATC up there, a lot more frenetic than EDI, coordinating and accommodating the differing speeds and needs sounded challenging on a benign summers day so hate to think what the stress levels are on a wet winter night.
