This vantage point will, in all likelihood, will be gone in the not too distant future... As the City Airport Development Programme gets underway later this year, the dock between the car park and the runway will be firstly the site of pile-driving of the supports for an apron expansion over the water, and then subsequently an extension to the east pier and noise barrier. Things are already changing on the northern side of the dock, where hoardings are now in place ahead of the construction of flats in the area between the Newham Borough Council offices to the west and the University of East London campus to the east.

Thank you - taken from the end of the walkway in the car park to the east of the terminal, a two minute walk from the main entrance and the DLR station. And yes, entirely accessible to the public - the fence is only chest high, but of course there is a fair bit of water between the vantage point and the runway. And the good news is the sun is favourable almost all day. Just do it this year - I suspect that next year this view will be blocked by construction work.
