2012 Legends

Postby The Dudster on Mon 02 Jan 2012, 12:55 pm

Lets see know its 2012 and 180 days to Legends. The guys at the TFC should in my opinion be given all the gratitude for the gargantuan task getting so many aircraft together of such diverse historic interest.

I think the show clashes with both Shuttelworth’s summer pagent, & Waddington. Both could limit the display participation of the BBMF & RNHF, although i have read somewhere that the Lanc pilot will do Duxford were possible. Maybe they could both operate from Duxford for the weekend with their entire fleets ? and the TFC share aircraft with Shuttelworth’s show.

I know some people have accused me of posting wish list in the past  sorry i only wish to start positive enthusiasm and debate. Im totally happy with whatever the TFC put together and know there all resigned to secrecy on posting line-ups etc and respect this fact, but teasing and innuendo providing its appropriate to this forum can't be a bad thing in such a hard economic climate we are in and to me all helps the Legends experience, which if im not right is the only place in the world that you can see such a diverse line up of piston engined aircraft on a genuine WW2 airfield.

So let the build up begin with first on a wish list is 3 x Bearcats over from the US with the Horsemen !

It's a good idea but the issue is that legends is run with such precision it would 'muck up' the flying displays because you would get aircraft flying in and out every 1/2 hour ect. It would be nice for TFC to send aircraft to other venues such as shuttleworth to return the favour but I can't see it happening on a major TFC display such as Legends. Furthermore RNHF don't really fly at waddo that much anyway, Although its not a problem because the 2nd stringbag will fly this year so they could send 1 to DX and 1 to Waddo.

Try contacting TFC about the idea and see if they approve of it.

I think the Shuttleworth show on this weekend could be the one to watch. If they can borrow some warbirds from Duxford and maybe something from Waddington (military helicopters would be ace at OW), it could be a superb show. It's easily the best venue of the three.

It is indeed a very busy weekend ahead. Be nice to see OW and DX share a few items with each other! Would love to see the Glad, and Lizzie back at Legends, I missed them last year.

I live at Martlesham Heath on a former RAF/USAF base with quite historic interest. Being in this area of East Anglia im surrounded by derelict and or disused WW2 former 8th Air force airfields. Within a 20 mile radius there are at least 20 memorials, control towers and various other commemorative sites. Seeing B17's B24's in the air would mean something special to me. Unfortunately as Keefy041 says its only a pipe dream as its highly unlikely well ever see more than B17 Sally B in the air in Europe in the next foreseeable 10 years or so. but one can wish as Liberty Belle came over in 2008. Here's a coupe i took then Image

The Collings Foundation do hardly any shows here in the US. Their revenue comes from ride hauling on their tour stops, so the chances of them coming overseas are nil I would say.
