Flying Legends weather and wind

Post by tankbuster »

It looks like wind could be the potential problem at Duxford at the weekend, 20kt south westerleys. Am I right in assuming that because of the delicate nature of many of the participants wind may have more of an impact than for other shows. What if any percentage of the participants would be affected by a 20kt sw?

See http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/6296643

The winds are expected to be 17-19mph but it expected to rain most of the afternoon. The wind will be right down the runway, but from an observers point of view the rain will be a stopper for me. I'll keep an eye on this one, but my attention is beginning to wander elsewhere.

I use these charts a lot and they have proved to be reasonably accurate. Midday is no rain with 10knot winds.

Remember there are still 2/3 days to go before we will get an accurate forecast so don't do anything you might regret later.

Rain? What rain?

Too early to tell what the weather will really be like, I don't really trust any of the forecasts til a day before the event.

Hi I'm new here, I plan to travel from Belgium. So weather forecast is indeed also important for me. With this type of unsettled weather it is indeed very difficult to have a good forecast days ahead, however I must admit that the wind worries me most. There will be quite some wind, SW.
I have been to Fairford in 2010, hoping to see the Lancaster fly, but crosswinds prevented that...now I'm anxious to catch Sally B...I don't have a clue at what wind speeds these oldies stop doing their thing.

The only time a weather report is accurate is on the day using the Mk.1 eyeball.

Weather REPORTS are usually accurate.....FORECASTS however, are still the work of alchemists, despite the huge computational power that's thrown at them.

The only concern might be the forecast gusty winds, which are South West on Saturday but nearer to West on Sunday.

What's the current wind strength estimated to be tomorrow?
