Remembering the Mighty Eighth
Starting the air show season in spectacular style, the Spring Air Show brings together contemporary and historic aircraft for a fabulous day of flying.
This year, the Spring Air Show commemorates the 70th anniversary of the United States Army Air Force arriving at RAF Duxford in April 1943. We’ll look at the impact of the American Forces on the course of the Second World War in Europe and their cultural influence on the East Anglian community.
Historic US warbirds will take to the skies as we remember the time when the stars and stripes flew at RAF Duxford.
IWM Duxford will be open from 8am to 6pm. The flying display will start at approximately 2pm and finish at approximately 5.30pm, leaving plenty of time in the morning to explore the whole of the museum, take part in activities across the site and soak up the atmosphere provided by trade stands.

So I imagine that we will see P-47,P-51's and P-40's at the show!

Re: Duxford Spring Air Show 26 May 2013
Perhaps a push to get the Hellcat and Wildcat back in the sky too...
Re: Duxford Spring Air Show 26 May 2013
Would like to see if Duxford could make a full flying display with american aircraft - that would be an interesting challenge - no spits, hurricanes or BBMF.
I would add Sally B to the list of course - what else can be added that we are aware of in UK and Europe.
F15 flyby as well of course

Re: Duxford Spring Air Show 26 May 2013
Nice idea...
Avenger, Corsair, P38, Bearcat, B25, Invader, Beech, DC3, Constellation, Staggerwing, T33, Sabre?
All flown out of Duxford before.
Could try to get a one of the European operators of the F16 over too.
Personally I'd like to see an attempt to get the biggest collection of P51's flying together - just like they did with the Spitfires a few years ago.

Even just to get all the UK Mustangs together for once would be great, 7 at my last count?

A fly through of The 100th Air Refueling Wing, over the top of Sally B would be a nice touch (The 100 ARW is the only permanent U.S. air refueling wing in the European theater, During World War II, its predecessor unit, the 100th Bombardment Group (Heavy), was an Eighth Air Force B-17 Flying Fortress unit in England, stationed at RAF Thorpe Abbotts. Flying over 300 combat missions, the group earned two Distinguished Unit Citations (Regensburg, 17 August 1943; Berlin, 4/6/8 March 1944). The group suffered tremendous losses in combat, with 177 Aircraft MIA, flying its last mission on 20 April 1945.)

As far as I'm aware the Sabre still hasn't had an engine run let alone a first flight.

Also seen on Carolyn Grace's website that her spitfire will be at the spring airshow.

Bring it on P51's or Bearcats. Are they bringing any aircraft with them guess it would make sense if there here for 2 or 3 months

Would be nice to see a Snafu, Janie and Marinell 3-ship

This would be a real coup considering the prolonged absence of the Hardwick Mustangs from Duxford; a real mystery considering their proximity to the airfield, but I think this could be the year. I think the confirmation of The Horsemen could be the catalyst to one of the great spring air shows when you consider the theme. Surely the rest of the European P51 contingent will now be hot on the heels (maybe that should be hooves) of The Horsemen, together with machines such as the Red Bull P38, B 25, Corsair, the Meier Motors Mustang, the Dutch B25, Nookie Bookie, Old Crow, Sally B obviously. Will Lakenheath also be willing to participate now, considering the profile of The Horsemen? Put it this way, I'm getting my ticket NOW and praying to the sun god that we have rays like we had last year. It will have to pull a few to better the jubilee show, but in these times of austerity, I am hopeful for a great start to the season.

The May airshow has always had a great, varied line up. Sounds like Legends is more your thing!
