Spitfires, Merlins and Motors @ Duxford 28Jul13

Post by Pen Pusher »

Join us for a nostalgic celebration of the legendary Supermarine Spitfire and the unmistakable Merlin engine.

Taking centre stage will be the Old Flying Machine Company’s Spitfire IX MH434 which is celebrating its 70th anniversary year. MH434 has been based at IWM Duxford longer than any other Spitfire.

Also on static display in the morning will be Air Leasing’s Spitfire IXT, Historic Aircraft Collection’s Spitfire V and The Fighter Collection’s Spitfire XIV. During the afternoon, the Spitfires will take to the skies for short solo and duo displays.

See our display of stunning vehicles, from pre-war vintage to contemporary classics. A focal point of the car display will be a display of vintage Rolls-Royce cars.

See and hear the iconic Merlin engine up-close and meet living history groups.

For a perfect day out, order your Picnic Hamper and enjoy a perfect ration-free picnic lunch for two.

If you would like to book a designated area for your car club, please visit our Car and Motorbike Club Visits page for more information. Individual classic car owners are invited to participate – if you arrive in a classic vehicle you can benefit from a reduced admission fee of £10. Please note pre-booking is not required for individual participants.

All flying is subject to weather, serviceability and operational commitments.

Normal museum admission charges apply

£18.50 is rather a lot given the small amount of display items, not even BBMF!?

Err, ticket prices are down the side? Oh unless you're a friend of DX, which I presume you are?

I stand corrected, it costs £1 more at £18.50p than the full normal museum entrance fee of £17.50p and it's classed as a Duxford 'Event' and not an air show.

And yes I am FOD and last last Monday I had my 100th visit to Duxford this year

You can always go to Old Warden on Sunday instead.

Sorry, my bad I hadn't realised it was that much to get in on a normal day

There's not much to grab my attention at OW, I'll see what I'm doing on Sunday...

Getting good value out of that, then  I'll be down working tomorrow.

Can anyone confirm that it's standard opening times tomorrow? Their website doesn't state otherwise, or at all for that matter for this show.

If you are like me a Sally B supporter, apparently we do not get in free tomorrow with our membership, unlike last year. I'll be giving it a miss.

09.30 and gates open and parking on site at the moment. Flying displays at 2.10pm, 2.55pm & 3.40pm.

Was going to OW but the forecast wind and rain put me off.

I have just returned home from a day at Duxford. When out of the strong breeze it felt very warm. It appeared to me a decent size crowd turned up; good for the museum. I wish they had a couple of other aviation themed events like this during the season, perhaps around Mustangs / US aircraft and another around naval aircraft. It was a good day with five nice displays from the spitfires. Roll on the September show.
