Quick question, I didn't make any airshows last year except Shannon in Ireland.
So I have booked flights from Ireland to get to the American airshow and I'm hoping to buy tickets for the Saturday.

1. Are the tickets printable or collection as getting them posted might be slow.

2. I will arrive Friday in stansted is it easy to get to Cambridge and then duxford? Google maps says its not a big deal??

3. Most importantly is the museam open Friday and is it busy?
Will there be anything unusual going on like display practice etc.?

4. Where's the party at Saturday night in Cambridge

Cheers
Steve

Print out tickets.

Stansted Express regularly runs from the airport to Cambridge Train Station.

Whittlesford Parkway station is a 25/30 minute walk from Duxford depending on weight of kit you are carrying. (£4.70 return Cambridge/Whittlesford although there is a free shuttle bus service to Duxford from the station)

Museum open on Friday, normal museum prices apply, lots of people there for arrivals and display practice.

Not a party animal so can't help there.

Once you are settled in Cambridge I'd suggest using the free shuttle bus on show days - takes you right into the show site so no long walk. They promise that nobody will be left behind with the last buses running back to Cambridge about 6.30 to 7.

Rumors of an F-22 flypast on the Sunday only. Can anyone elaborate on this?

They return home mid-May from what we have been told. If that is the case, then the rumour has not basis.

Watching some war birds doing practice display's at Duxford this afternoon along the new display datum which appears to be the center of the 'naughty field', halfway between the airfield southern boundary and Grange Road, which also puts the mound under the display datum. Good luck to any one trying for south side to watch any air shows.

If the new datum is halfway up the field, then the mound would be north-side of the new display line since it's right on the southern boundary by the fire trucks. I think you'd be surprised how far away things were already displaying, and if they're appreciably more distant than before, I'd suggest they'll be closer to Grange Road than it seems.

One has to wonder if this move is the death knell for shows at Duxford... I hope not, I really do.

Will be interesting to see how the south side battle goes this season.
Pushing the display line further from the paying crowd seems counter productive.

Can you be 'done' for trespass on grange road if you don't enter the fields? unlikely

Walk from where?

Duxford Primary School calendar is still showing the air show weekend as blank. Normally it's blocked in with 'Airshow BBQ/Parking' :dunno:

I can't see the school opening anymore to be honest. Can you imagine the rags headlines. "School puts pupils at risk near airshow". I would also think that there will be a lot of no parking in force around the area of Duxford on airshow week end, with PC Plod being extra vigilant. I suppose though we'll have to wait and see what happens in a few weeks time.

Just received a report from someone on the scene. In spite of the security guards on Grange Road earlier saying pedestrian access would be allowed, it is now closed to ALL traffic and two motorcycle cops threatening arrest to anyone who ignores the closure order granted to Cambridge CC.

I wasn't at the Sept 2015 show but from reports on this forum there would already seem to be a precedent for closing the road and denying access - we shall see how they choose to play it this year.

It was the usual scaremongering. "Security" were greeting people that walked past them.

He he he!

It just seems counter-productive to me if they have pushed the display line further back towards Grange Road. The sheer number of people in fields and at the school for Legends surprised me and I don't think people will suddenly decide to not go for the coming show, so police or security may have their hands full. The fact though that it is not currently listed on the school calendar is ominous. Looks like I'd better get my roof rack, cycle carrier and bicycle clips out.

I was just wondering, with the new caa regs, if Duxford cannot stop people gathering in the naughty field/grange road, will they fall foul of the required safety requirements thus airshows no longer being viable? I'm not altogether sure of the new regs, but it was a thought that crossed my mind.

I think the more interesting point is not so much future viability but what the display director does at the end of this month when Grange Road, inevitably, fills with people. The requirements 'suggest' the display should be stopped.........
