Daks Over Normandy - June 2019
Re: Daks Over Normandy - June 2019
So on the 3rd June there is as copied from the site:
22.00 – 24.00 Photo shoot for aviation photographers
Yet on the ticketed days no such thing seems weird, unless this is just for press?

Or private event organised by one of the various organisations that do these sort of events who knows as it has not been mentioned before(well not that I can see)

Not sure what you mean by "grow into a significant number of aircraft"... there are over 40 planes confirmed till now. Isn't it significant already?
Are there? I'm probably looking in the wrong place. I've seen the aspiration/wish/intent to get that many, but my apologies, I haven't seen the physical specimens listed anywhere, aside from a small handful mentioned in the latest Aeroplane mag. If that number are officially 'on the list', great.. can't wait.

Someone asked on the official FB page when the Cean night shoot was announced and they said a Duxford one was planned as well so I expect it will be along the same lines (the times are the same and I expect the price £85 to be as well).

Amazing to see Southend on the list for a flypast the big question is Airport or Seafront and will the airport actually play ball!
Re: Daks Over Normandy - June 2019
I asked them on twitter how to book the photo flights and the night shoot. No reply.
Re: Daks Over Normandy - June 2019
Just a follow up, I emailed to find out more about the photo flights and night shoot.
They are still working out the details with their partners at Duxford.
Have booked a ticket for the Tuesday anyway as this will probably be needed for the photo flights / Dakota flights.

It's possible to book the French scenic flights for 8th June on their website, currently only a couple still available. €225/£197.10. The rest of the flights, including all on the 7th, appear to have sold out.

"Escorted by a number of World War II fighters"
First time I'd seen mention of other aircraft. Certainly going to be quite a sight.

Hope to catch them over Southend, hopefully a more detailed map will be released don't want to be in one end of the town and have them go over another, would look amazing if they followed the pier out to sea, standing on the end a mile out to sea

Hope Trump does not go to Duxford with all the chaos it could bring as he is bound to come over for the French event.

As I live in Maidstone, it would be remiss of me to miss this, just have to watch out for the routing. Robin.

Re: Daks Over Normandy - June 2019
Does anyone know what time the airfield will open on the 5th for people to get on site.
IWM ticket said 10am but the event starts at 10.30 according to the program on the Daks over Normandy site. Seems a bit tight to get people parked, tickets check and in to the airfield to see things get going.
I have tried to contact IWM via Twitter and their website but nothing back on this.
Also, interested to know if the fighters will be departing from Duxford as well with the Daks.

the museum normally opens at 10am, so i presume it will be around then if not a bit earlier.
It's not strictly speaking an air show so not sure how different it will be

Response from IWM
"We are advertising our opening time on the 5th June as 10am. However, like Air Show days, we expect that the car parks will open earlier and is possible that admission will also start a bit earlier as well."

Re: Daks Over Normandy - June 2019
I am interested in attending this event, but it will only be for one day. Amid the slow trickle of information, I am interested to hear how other forum members have rationalised their plans for visiting?
The programme is essentially the same on both the 4th and 5th, but repeated morning and afternoon on the 4th with the added attraction of a mass parachute jump with round chutes. Or alternatively go for the 5th, with the departure to Normandy, which could potentially see a number of other warbirds for escorts about.
I have never been to an event similar to this and don't really know what to expect. So I would appreciate any advice.
Also, it is possible tickets will sell out closer to the event?
Phil
