I see there is an Australian Pete "Ando" Anderson commentating this year,
he is the regular commentator for the Temora shows, he'll be great in my
humble opinion.
Link to a recent Temora show where "Ando" did the chatting.

So Legends can have an F-15, F-22, F-35 and Red Arrows... but no Me-262!?

Jeez, this was so predictable... I'm sure it's a bit more complicated than 'ooh, do you want an Me-262? Yeah, go on then'. The Heritage flight is already at RIAT so sharing of assets makes sense and it's the Heritage Flight; according to their website they offer a living museum of, and aerial monument to, U.S. Air Force history and celebrate and honour the sacrifice of those currently serving, as well as the sacrifices of war heroes of the past. Surely Flying Legends is a suitable place for this celebration and honour to be expressed. If you can't bare to take part then you've got to question why you're going at all.
Re: Flying Legends 2018
I've spoken to TFC people before who have said to me they wouldn't get an Me-262 because its a jet...
In any case, i'll be at RIAT this year, but I like to keep abreast of what's happening elsewhere.

Re: Flying Legends 2018
It's not everyday that the USAF Heritage Flight are in the UK so I think every opportunity needs to be taken to see the display across different parts of the country and not in one specific place. According to the Flying Legends Twitter feed a "surprise" P-51D will be used in the formation, to be announced at a later date.
Re: Flying Legends 2018
DC6 confirmed alpha jets canceled as cannot do there aerobatic display!

Re: Flying Legends 2018
Further to detailed discussion and despite all best efforts from the CAA, it has not been possible to grant the Flying Bulls Alpha Jets the permission to provide their full aerobatic display routine at Flying legends 2018.
Ahh good job all round by the CAA!
(No one tell them that 8 Alpha Jets flew a full aerobatic routine at Duxford 2 weeks ago )

Yes, I'm well aware of that, but I think it highlights more than anything the futility of the current regulations...

I'm sure if you buy a multi £Million warbird collection, rent Duxford from IWM and run and operate your own airshow you can book whatever aircraft you'd want to attend and display.
Re: Flying Legends 2018
That's exactly my point. I've spoken to so many people that say they have a 'no jets' rule and yet I feel an actual second world war-warbird, *legend* would be far more appropriate than anything modern.
It's their choice, clearly, but it just strikes me as very weird!

Re: Flying Legends 2018
What really is weird is people's obsession with the "rules" of Flying Legends...

Re: Flying Legends 2018
Most airshows have a theme, and to an outsider like me that rarely attends - Flying Legends seems to be about aircraft, mainly from the second world war, that are legendary.
Often i've told people at Duxford how dearly I would love to see an Me-262 at the show, since - to me - it seems an appropriate participant and, often, i've seen the look of horror before they tell me "... but it's a jet!"
That's the basis on which my above point is made.

Re: Flying Legends 2018

Re: Flying Legends 2018
Could always go from London Liverpool Street and get off the train at Whittlesford Parkway and it's a 20 minute walk from the station.

Re: Flying Legends 2018
Cheers Brian May take a look at that option but for me 20mins is about 30
Re: Flying Legends 2018
I used the shuttle bus from Cambridge last year but due to train problems only got the one that arrived as the flightline walk ended - so not one of the earlier ones. That one was empty and waiting at the station for 20 minutes before leaving for it's timed departure.
Leaving afterwards was more problematic, there was quite a queue and we were waiting a fair while, but overall it was a simple process
