Sad times, although lets be honest we all expected it...

I wonder if they'll still open it on the Monday.

Reds plus F35s I would imagine or an outside chance of 'RAF 100' formation.

All a bit beyond me this new fangled stuff. Is it cleared to fly over London, some of it is multi engined after all...

I live in Farnborough and I've no intention of going in even with the BOGOF tickets for residents. I might make the playing fields.

Incidentally the Army has put a serious chainlink fence all round Long Valley to prevent anyone from getting onto the hill above the runway.

I won’t be attending again, until something very rare makes it worth attending. I won’t be forking out 50 pound to see what i pretty much would see at Eastbourne. Not to mention the god awful display line cramped with junk!

To be fair there was a handfull of decent displays at the 2016 show. The F35 & F22 as well as the Hornet (Super Hornet? I dont remember) The Atlas display too.

But, on the other hand the reds flypasts were only memorable because of what they flew through with. Even Sally Bs display which is usually enjoyable was just a take off and landing.

Rich Goodwin was probably the highlight of the display which, (as good as his display is) sums up the experience. I can't see me ever going again.

F22 wasn’t in attendance. And in 2010 when it was it was only trade days. The F-35 was showcased more properly at RIAT the week before. I suppose the A400M and F-18 are cool to see, but their attendance is a given.

Think you will find your 'showcase' was identical to Farnborough. In fact Farnborough had a better one than RIAT on one of the practice displays :ninja:

In the sense that at RIAT we saw it fly/take off multiple times during one day. We got within touching distance in the static park. Where as Farnborough it was operating out of Fairford.

That's pretty decent: the Sycamore particularly as I don't believe I've ever seen one in the air.

It's a nice announcement however (IIRC) all of these are appearing elsewhere in the UK this season with no display restrictions and therefore (arguably) better opportunities to see them.

Still nothing announced to attract me here.

FIA tickets are £34 a pop currently, to see the Sycamore & Bo-105, or you could pay circa £25 to see them at Yeovilton or Cosford and have a much more pleasant day. Hmmm... :wat:

I do get that in general, but I can drive from Farnborough to Cosford or Yeovilton at whatever expense, or walk down to the Cove Golf Course on both public days at Farnborough (or choose the fine one) without the nause of airshow traffic, get a pint at the Monkey Puzzle while I watch the display and afterwards walk home again....

Or do both of course. I've never been to Cosford but I'm considering it, mainly for the static.

Saw a hint on Twitter that RIAT may be getting a USMC AV8B this year, would surely make sense for it to do Farnborough too if it's on this side of the pond?

Tom posted a photo of a USMC AV-8B from his recent trip and said that it was great to see the Harrier again.

Not exactly a participation hint!

Wasn't it posted on a 'RIATMarketing' address though, and not Tom's own account ?

Could have been a mistake if he had both accounts on his phone?
Maybe did it, went to change it back, but realised that his error would send the UK aviation enthusiast community into meltdown

Used to attend religiously but finally gave up on it in 2016,simply wasn’t enough to entice me,what with the fiasco of restricted flying now and rising costs,if you are going to attend my advice is to avoid the sat/sun and go Friday aswell.

i would agree that is you are solely interested in the flying then it is a waste of time. If you are a spotter, or just interested in aircraft, rather than photography it is of interest. I have arrivals week off and will hopefully be in the Pegasus enclosure, minus Friday at RIAT. This wont cost anything, but you have to already be a member, plus is is just down the road.

Trouble is that map dated Feb is a bit for a mix between '16 and '18
