If even quite a small percentage of those were to visit the museum then that would be more visitors than the museum would get in a bog standard day. The economics are as always; a proportion of visitors will buy something in the cafe/shop.

Furthermore, as a museum curator, you want as many people as possible to see the collection, that's your purpose in life. Staying open an extra couple of hours for the big annual event is an opportunity, surely.

Furtherfuthermore  , up until a couple of years ago not only did the museum stay open longer on show day, they used to open the hangar doors, throwing daylight on the collection, and even were known to wheel a handful of exhibits outside.

That really is pathetic - I was long gone by 6pm but it seems idiotic to close "at the normal time - todays no different" :loser: Since the museum has become a RAF museum, I feel the link between it and air show has gone, which sounds bizarre. As Nige said, I used to look forward to see what old timers had been wheeled outside to see a bit of day light. Now you have to snake your way through car showrooms and even more fun fair rides to even get into the blessed museum hangars....

Personally, I got a day off from our busy bed and breakfast. I spent an enjoyable day with a couple of old mates, the sun shone (remember Fairford  ) I saw some superb flying in a variety of aircraft and I got some nice shots to remember it by, one or two of which may even make it to the wall. So all in all it was a cracking day....

BUT

The day before The RAF managed a Queens Birthday Flypast with lord knows how many aircraft and crew involved at tax payers expense, a lot of whom were at Cosford by the way. They even manged to send two VC's up to formate on the Vulcan. THATS what grinds my gears if I must be honest. Sorry to say but the organisers at Cosford must be red faced with embarassment at the abundance of effort placed into a flypast compared to a "Flagship" airshow. Very dissappointing

A Big Thank You.....

.... to everyone who did us the honour of paying attention to ‘Into The Wild Blue Yonder’ - at Cosford for its first ‘proper’ outing, and at Duxford for its sneak preview. All of your comments are noted with gratitude, and producer Jonathan Ruffle and I are working on where to take it from here.

Actually, I was impressed with how well people seem to have paid attention! As far as the unexpected mentions of Typhoon (not one but two) were concerned, well..... you might think that that was a spot of finger trouble, but I couldn’t possibly comment.

In fact, Typhoon seems to have been a bit of a heffalump trap for us that day. I’ve just listened, with some incredulity, to the recording of the Typhoon display, and sure enough, at some stage some pratt does refer to it as ‘Tornado’. Twice. Three extra guard duties and an aircraft recognition class, that man.

Anyroadup, thanks again - we’ll keep you posted with developments.
