RIAT 2012 Participants

Gutted about the SE's, but great news on the US Participation, especially the F-15E's! :yahoo:

Now the SE's have cancelled from the flying, hopefully that will mean the rumoured Slovak Mig-29 can jump into that spot.

I'm actually forgetting the Russian Knights, something would have been said by now. :dunno:

Gutted about the Super Etendards, one of the highlights for me as well. Curious how one being on static is being billed as an addition. I guess it's the old addition by subtraction math. Will enjoy seeing one on arrival & departure days, but don't find this as any consolation to it's removal from the flying prpgram. With only 3 updates left until arrivals I can't see anything other than civilian, RAF and RN items being the only definite additions at this point. Still looking very forward to my 6 days a Fairford.

I'm still hopeful they and a Slovak Mig can come, should really have added the JASDF bit in my statement
Still, an excellent line up, looking forward to three weeks from now, where I will be in one excited state.

Static is seperate to flying participants...

So...

Number on flying before update = 2
Number on flying after update = 0

Cancellation? Yes

Number on static before update = 0
Number on static after update = 1

Addition? Yes.

Really though, good to see one will still attend for static, will be the first time I've ever seen one (I think), so happy regardless...

Real shame as others have said about the Super Etendards, but still a couple of nice additions especially the Wright-Patterson C-17 for static. Shame a few of the other bits rumoured by others on here to attend havent appeared on this list and these special items for static mentioned at the media day?

Would be nice to have an update from riat as to the talks going on with Finland, Morocco and Slovakia as these have been ongoing on the riat site for 3 or 4 months now? Still a great looking show if it all shows up and fingers crossed some more bits to be added over the next 2 updates plus some RAF statics as they look than sparse this year.
Cheers

To start - I do admit, I was looking forward to the Super Entendard display, but I'm really glad they haven't cancelled altogether. Like the business jets and the Jet Provosts that have been added, but I absolutely adore one, or rather two, additions to the static, anyone have any ideas?

Agreed a shame about the Etendards, but as has been said, a Slovak MIG would be a superb replacement. Fingers crossed for next Thursday!

We should all be very grateful in times of financial hardship and cutbacks RIAT is getting what its getting...well done to the organisers! One thing is there a Phantom statically or have i missed a thread? Do the Turks still fly them, Japanese ?? Germans?

Assuming X = Flying French Navy Etendard and Y = Static French Navy Etendard the equation should read something like this: 2X-2X+Y=Y . Yes, I got it now! However, if Y is billed as a genuine addition then Y>2X would also be true. In which case a bird on the ground is worth more than 2 in the air. :clown: :clown: :clown: I may be just another stupid Yank but I am fully aware of the separate flying and static categories. IMHO it just didn't seem to be represented correctly by RIAT. I love the weasel in the smoking jacket, that must be a British thing.

Agreed. That's why I'm making the trip now. Turkey, Greece, South Korea, Japan, USAF, Iran and Germany(not for long) all still operate the Phantom. Best chance for one at Fairford in the near future would be a Turkish example if you ask me.

Disappointed the Etendards won't be flying, but if I'm honest, if one display item was going to cancel, I figured it'd be them

Glad one'll be static, and hopefully it won't go tech so we can see it depart on the Monday!

That would be awesome, also like to see the Kiwi 757 stay a bit longer and come to RIAT too, even if it is just as a static exhibit, its still nice to see it

As predicted on 17th May.

Apart from the obvious bad news, some decent additions today. Hoping RIAT has a couple of special things up their sleeves still, must be more to come and I'm sure they'll be working right up to the last minute.

I'm glad the Eagles have been confirmed, even though i'm on the flight patch from Lakenheath to Mach Loop and see them reguarly and they're a regular at RIAT, I still never get bored of them.

But wasn't the same sentence said about the Koreans "only" appearance in the UK being at RIAT. Hopefully RIAT can tempt them over, a formation pass with the Yak-130?

Cannot believe the Russians are only coming for Farnborough,if correct Fairford have certainly missed out on such a star item especially as they are probably arriving in the UK the weekend of RIAT.Can we hope for a late news flash addition?

The Knights are famous for charging alot of money to display, the cost of a public day ticket at FIA has gone up significantly on 2010... this may be the reason why. RIAT's hasn't.

Perhaps they can't afford them?
