Participating nations

Post by Felle »

Hallo all,

Sri Lanka should have been the 52nd nation participating at RIAT. Does someone knows if and where there is a list of the nations that ever participated at RIAT? (and in which year for the 1st time? for example: 51 - Algeria - 2009.)

Thanks a lot.

Felle.

Very nearly right mr C, though the yanks appeared in 1971 with a 4x WR F4D flypast. Only the UK, US and Dutch have been to every event, the French missed '72, Danes '72 and '73, (West) Germany '71, '72 and '89 to blemish their records.

Fair enough, I will adjust the list accordingly.

As an interesting (or incredidbly boring - depending on your point of view) statistic, 32 of the 51 nations have at some point brought a Hercules for the display. Poland and Morocco both operate the type but have yet to bring one. or :sleepy:

So this year we can add Columbia, South Korea and another one (for the record: only when they actually touched the runway  ).

Was there in 2011 a new one?

Since about 70 nations' military arms operate the Herc, I suppose it is unsurprising...and boring!!

I wondered about Argentina. Have they been back since 1979?

I thought they sent some high ranked person post Corporate/Black Buck. At least it was mentioned in that book Airshow about organising RIAT when Paul Bowen was still alive and around, that relations between the UK and Argentina started to become less frozen when an Argentine general unexpectedly accepted an invitation to come to the show.

If we included generals and VIPs the country list may well be in 3 figures.

Argentina sent a Hercules in 1979 and 1981, unsurprisingly not since, cannot think why?

Venezuela appeared with a C-130 and Canberra in 1979, I believe their only appearance and therefore the answer to the question.

No, you bow down to my ability to use a search engine and look it up as you're clearly an idle let someone do it for me type. :butt:

It was a pleasure.

For future reference. Not perfect by a long chalk, but its a fairly good start.

They're not coming. Its just a provisional and Riat have stated many times they can't justify the cost of bringing them over. :cuppa:
