Lets get used to the fact that the Russian Knights will not be at RIAT and move on.

How much tail sliding does the Polish MIG29 do? And the Slovak one for that matter.

If the Slovak MIG turns up, is his display similar to the Polish?

I believe the Slovak 29 does a tailslide but the polish one certainly doesn't

There are a few videos on YouTube of it doing a tailslide.

How old are those videos? Older than let's say 10 years or younger?

(and the question is: when those were filmed, not uploaded)

Can't remember off the top of my head but they were a while ago, 10 years or more maybe. They probably don't do it now. Having never seen the Slovak display i can't say for certain.

Slovaks and Hungarians used to do an abundance of tailslides and cobras. I know the last time the UK saw a Hungarian MiG 29 display, which was at Waddington 2005, it did a couple of tailslides. As long as I can remember, the Polish have never done these manoeuvres.

I think that allot of former eastern bloc airforces used to do it,as their training was based around soviet methology, but this has now since gone with integration into NATO and new tactics, does that answer the question!
If you want to see tail slides and cobras I would think best bet is FIA and Knights, unless they are somehow persuaded to attend RIAT,it would be surprising if RIAT didn't at least approach the possibility, being that they will most likely arrive in UK the weekend of RIAT.

The loss of the Super Et's is a dissapointment but I still think this years show is looking like the best in a good few years, despite the lack of US hardware in the flying, the exception being the Osprey and F18E/F. Hope her indoors manages to stay awake for the Osprey this time as it was all she wanted to see the last time she did RIAT and she managed to snore through it

The Slovak 29 demo definitely does NOT include a tailslide. He flew in glorious weather on both Zeltweg show days last year, and tailslides were there none! His display is very similar to the Polish, it would be interesting to compare them at the same show.

Perhaps they can't afford them?

Didnt the Ukranians charge RIAT alot of money for the Su27 + the IL 76, and that was only for static, so yes they probably can afford them but dont think it is gouing to happen.

In the participants list Typhoon and Tornado of RAF "only" in the flying. So no static display?

All the talk of will the Slovakian Mig 29 do tail slides etc., they haven't even been confirmed as coming yet !?!, They have been rumoured as coming alright but so have couple of other aircraft. I hope it does appear, however.

Man, what a tough week. First of all Super Etendards cancel and now I'm told the Mig 29 display does n't have a tail slide! For me, that's a big loss. Like the F1's last year I'm gutted about the SE's. The debate will roll on but I'm pretty confident I'll see a B52, B1, F22 and F15 in the skies again. That's why for me the likes of the Super E's, Mirage F1's and Mig 21's for further example are big hit's over the years. Still, if that's the worst news we get till the best weekend of the year I'll survive. First billboard poster up in its usual spot in Bristol.....brings a smile every year when I pass by.

So when does the weather post start, its only 3 weeks!

As much as I would like to believe it, I very much doubt they are coming to RIAT. I would LOVE to be proved wrong, but most of me says no it won't be happening.

Lets just drop the Russian Kngiht now and wait till thusday to see what RIATannounces, they still havent announced those rare aircraft that were mentioned at press launch. If the Russian Knight were the 4 ship, i would want them @ riat but if its just the single ship, then we could always turn to the Ukaranian air force because if i remember rightly, they told Mr Tim Prince that they would love to return to RIATand fly the Flanker.

Someone asked MR Tim Prince to look forward to 2012 and he replied:

"The operational theme of SkyLift where we are merging the tankers with the haulage aircraft, both fixed and rotary wing, is also quite timely, with many new aircraft being procured at the moment. We have planted the thought with many of the Chiefs who were here this year that some careful planning of their cross-country training needs in that first week of July might make it easier for their aircraft to take part.

"We had a very warm response from the Chinese PLA VIP contingent attending the Air Tattoo who would love to bring their indigenous aircraft to RIAT before too long and, as you can imagine, the Ukrainian Air Force Chief, himself a true aviator, and having been bombarded with requests from my team, gave very positive noises that they would love to return and fly the Su-27."

RIAT had to pay a sizeable sum of money to get the Ukrainian's over last year, if the Russian Knights are unaffordable, then so probably are the Ukrainian's. Additionally a Ukrainian Su-27 display has not been seen for many years, which is another big stumbling block.

I think people need to start being realistic, the Russian Knights will not be at RIAT unfortunately and if you want to see them, then you're going to have to go to Farnborough.

I'm in an influencing position because of my job and have written to the Slovaks again lobbying for the L39 (with a special tail scheme) and Mig29. Not sure if the new defence minister has to sign off participation. But as of today there is no confirmation or decline. But this late in the day wouldn't they have to be static only as the display is full?

Who Said RIAT couldnt afford them? They managed it last year, and with them not paying for a singer this year then im sure there budget could do something like that again.
