Does anyone know if the AN224 has ever been to FRIAT before???? (this year is my first time, would have been second, damned rain!!!)

No the 224 hasn't visited RIAT or anywhere else come to think of it :ninja:

Didn't it do Farnborough in 1990

Arthur

Don't understand these people who read so much into the 'special' aicraft mention. RIAT's main objective is to sell tickets to raise money for charity, and so they are going to big everything up as an advertiser would. I am confident the addition will be a 'good' one, but I am sceptical as to whether we should always believe that the hype is to be achieved. Not knocking the organisers, they are doing what anyone would do if they needed tickets sold, and this year the line-up is very, very good and all credit to DBH, but I do think that people need to realise that RIAT are always going to call an aircraft addition 'special'. I don't think the public would be impressed if the website said that they were adding 'some more mundane aicraft that turn up every year' next week.
Anyway, I've rambled. The line up is great and I can't wait for 2 weeks time!

Just posted on facebook

The Colombians are on their way to RIAT 2012!!

The Colombian Air Force will be sending a C-130H Hercules transport aircraft, based at Bogota and a new basic trainer called the T-90 Calima from Cali.

To carry the T-90 Calima the engineers of the CIAC (Colombian Aeronautical Corporation Industry) have designed the crate that you can see in the photo. The T-90 aircraft must be mounted at a 45 degree angle with the engine and wings dismounted to fit perfectly inside the C-130H Hercules.

Great Photo, guess it will take them a while to fly up to Fairford from Colombia!
Have they ever attended before to RIAT?

Christian
Bring on RIAT, Waddington, Cosford, Blackpool, Southport and Bournemouth.

Small update on the RIAT website

Latest Update - 25/6/12

NEWS: Breitling have now contacted the Air Tattoo to confirm that the Super Constellation 'Connie' will no longer be performing a flypast at RIAT 2012. This is due to a damaged engine that now has to be replaced. The Super Constellation is not expected to start flying again until August 2012. More information is given here. Note, however, that the Breitling Jet Team will still make an appearance in the flying display on both Saturday and Sunday.

We won't know the flying schedule until either friday evening or saturday morning and the Vulcan is only provisional at the moment because the double engine change may mean it wont have flown by RIAT.

Vulcan carried out its first ground run today and early reports sound promising and its Permit To Fly has been renewed until 24 June 2013

Keep up the good work up at Finningley (ooops, sorry, better say RHADS hadn't I? )

I reckon you should look at the globe or a good quality map my friend. Check out the distances & countries between Columbia & Atlantic first..... For a small Air Arm, it's quite a logistical nightmare!

It's probably been done for a few weeks now and I've just missed it but when did the 2nd Rafale get added and is one on static?

More likely.. Colombia > Dominican Republic.. > Bemuda > Azores > UK = Transit time 4 days

OR

Colombia > US > Canada > UK

Could be completely wrong though

It's a spare for the display aircraft.

Sure it's a fair old trip. But I don't think it's a major task for them. Looking at the small cargo I'd guess the C130 will have near full fuel and plenty of range, in fact as a cargo aircraft I'm sure it's just another day at the office for the crew only a bit longer! They will have their MOD doing all the over flight clearance etc.

Even in a C-130 it's going to take them 3 or 4 day's land hopping to get them here for Colombia, the USAF could possibly do it shorter with there air bridge capability..
