Well with the British GP being on the same weekend, hopefully the acts RIAT want to book will want to go there instead! (F1Rocks)

Agreed, Peter.

Don't expect too much this side of Christmas -- at the earliest beginning of 2012, and that will most likely be a few static aircraft.

Just saw this on Flightline, a quote from Tim Price talking about next year.

“With the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics taking place in the UK next year, I think there’s a feeling that this is the place to be in 2012. Although it is still early for most international air arms to confirm their participation we are already hearing whispers from Asia that might see some extremely rare and exotic aircraft heading for Fairford next summer. It’s very exciting.”

Not too sure, but would think it more likely to be in the Way of China : they expressed interest of visiting RIAT, in the future at RIAT 11. Tim Prince in Interview with Global Aviation Resource: " "We had a very warm response from the Chinese PLA VIP contingent attending the Air Tattoo who would love to bring their indigenous aircraft to RIAT before too long "
Perhaps the August 1st Team could be a possibility? Not getting my Hopes up though.

Well, at least the Chinese, unlike many other countries, could actually afford to send some aircraft to RIAT. But as I have said many times, I will only believe the participation list when the aircraft concerned actually touches down (or displays if flying in) at Fairford. The situation concerning military (and civil) aviation budgets is such that anything announced now can not be guaranteed to appear seven months hence, without even considering any political complications. The squadrons and crews may wish to come, that does not mean that their higher commands or governments will sanction it. I hope that this good start can be maintained, but will be neither surprised nor discouraged if it does not. We will get what we will get.

With it looking like the Japanese team at Rome, I'd say that there is a chance of them, or the aformentioned Chinese.

Either way, I won't believe it till I see it!

Blue Impulse are still TBC for Rome, however if they do attend then you are right on a strong chance of them coming our way.

I wouldn't read too much into the Blue Impulse's potential Rome appearance until we have some inkling of understanding of the nature of the negotiations between the Rome show and the JASDF. "TBC" in this case could mean "negotiations at an advanced stage, waiting for formal approval," or it could mean "invited, not yet received a response."

I mean, how many times were the Thunderbirds, Blue Angels, Indian Flankers, Chinese aircraft, etc. listed (albeit as "invited") on Kecskemet's website?

That said, I'd love to see 'em. I was at Nellis in '97, and though I was jus' a boy, I seem to recall them being quite good. Now if only the Kawasaki C-1 had some decent-size fuel tanks and could come as a support ship... with some Phantoms in tow :)

We have an update.

A team from RIAT were invited to the Swedish Embassy recently for a meeting with their Defence Attaché followed by a reception at the New Zealand High Commission in honour of their outgoing Defence Attaché and welcoming his replacement. The possibility of a Gripen participating at RIAT 2012 was raised but we shall have to wait until the spring before further news is expected.

The Red Arrows have never missed an Air Tattoo over its 40 years and although not yet confirmed, they are already talking to us about their requirements for 2012. The provisional plan is for them to be rehearsing on the Friday, followed by displays on Saturday and Sunday, towards the end of the flying programme.

In their letter confirming participation in next summer's Air Tattoo, the Brazilian Air Force stated "the Brazilian point of contact for the deployment of a C-130 (or 2) to RIAT 2012 is . . .". So, we'll have to wait to see if they'll send two aircraft . . . or Juan!

Next update is on the 5th of January.

I was convinced the Reds were not at the first show. They were not mentioned at the participants of the first show listed at this year's checklist too.

They were actually absent from the first TWO Tattoos.... The RAF were represented by the Linton Blades in '71 and the Red Pelicans in '72..... I really wish RIAT researchers would actually do some researching...

New update on the site. roughly says they are asking the Americans & Canadians for whatever they can get. Negotiations are starting with Slovakia, who they missed on the invitations by mistake. And that the POLAF are likely to attend but they cannot confirm what yet.

They've also confirmed the pilot for this years Hawk T1 display; Flt Lt Phil Bird.

It will be a case of 'welcome home' for the RAF's solo Hawk display pilot for 2012 if his participation at RIAT 2012 is confirmed next year. Pilot Flt Lt Phil Bird was brought up in Fairford. It will also be the final year for the Hawk T1 display as the T2 will hopefully take up the baton in 2013.

It doesn't - it says:

We were delighted when our title sponsor BAE Systems generously stepped in last summer with a flying display by one of its developmental Typhoon aircraft. The military fast jet should once again demonstrate its agility and power at RAF Fairford this summer as the Royal Air Force has said that, all things being equal, it is planning to send a Typhoon to RIAT.
