It's even easier for the enthusiasts:

Get there early and get a seat at the front. If you can't do that, tough luck.

I think the rules, regulations and general attitude by the majority was pretty satisfactory if you ask me. You find rude and selfish people everywhere. I had one right behind me in the FRIAT grandstand.

The trouble is though even turning up early and getting yourself a spot at the front isn't a guarantee. There is still going to be someone who comes and stands in front of you. Like I said in my previous post, it only takes one person to stand at the front and it causes a chain reaction whereby everyone else then has to stand as well in order to see anything. If people want to be at the front, they should be in seats so that they don't obstruct the view of those behind you. If you want to stand and take pictures, stand further back and so that you're not in the way of those who are seated. It's really not that hard, all it takes is the tiniest bit off common sense and consideration.

I'm sorry but I really don't understand how that can happen. If you are sitting right up close to the barrier how can someone squeeze in and stand in front of you? This has never happened to me. Squeezed in close beside me yes, but never in front of me.

What a load of old tosh. Next thing you'll be wanting is the banning of tall people as they "get in the way." If you want shots of aircraft on the runway, get there early and get to the front. If runway shots aren't important then it doesn't matter all that much where you stand.

In what way have I suggested that anyone should be banned? I'm simply saying that people need to be considerate of those around them and be careful not to obstruct other peoples view. And I'm not just talking about getting in the way of photographers, other people would just like to be able to watch the flying displays without someone being in the way, but some seem to think that because they have a camera they have more right to a clear view of what's going on than those who don't.

Exactly. Most photographers would want to get runway or lift-off shots which can be very dramatic, therefore they need to get to the front and they need to stand up as it's impossible to take these photos wnen sitting down, because you can't pan properly and anyway you've usually got a metal crash barrier at lens level. If you can't get there in time you are restricted to the aircraft at around 500ft as has been mentioned, or go to the extreme left or right of the crowd line when as has also been mentioned I think where there is usually some space available for a bit longer.

There was a guy at Farnborough today, in the photo enclosure and he was the only one there, tight up against the fence with a fold up step which he stood on when ever he was taking photos. I have a photo.

1) There are no step ladders allowed at the front, if you're behind the step ladder zone, accept that you got there too late and you're not gonna get a great view regardless of step ladders. Deal with the rules and work around them, you want a good spot, get there early enough to get your chair at the front.

2) Someone steps in front of you, deal with it like a human being, ask them to move.

I wish everyone would stop these petty little complaints when RIAT have done a damn good job. In fact, these complaints don't even seem to be anything to do with RIAT, more airshows in general. Deal with it. Deal with how it is. This thread is almost as moronic as the "selfish chairs" one.

Just as an aside point, not everyone who uses a stepladder is an arse. One extremely kind Dutch chap on a small stepladder photographing the B-2 on static saw myself and my brother trying to get a shot, and stepped down to let us borrow his ladder. We didn't catch his name - but if you are reading this sir, then thank you!

So what if he repetitively moves in front of you and regularly obstructs your views? Is it in the human nature to ask to move again?

Of course the best thing to do is to get your selfish chair and put your ladder right at the front of everyone. Stand on the ladder at the appropriate moment and get in everyone's way. Once finished go around the static and stare into jet exhaust pipes for a few hours.

I find this thread quite amusing - Why some people are complaining about someone taking a tiny fraction of a massive crowdline?? Get over it! The Aircraft are in the sky when they're displaying so as long as you have a view of the sky what's the matter?

Why should a person at the front of the crowdline even need a stepladder? They can see all the action no problem. What an idiotic post.

Nobody. Nobody, should have the right to a stepladder at the front of the crowdline.

That is selfish, stupid and idiotic. And I take that you use a stepladder at the front of the crowdline from your view?

Had no idea the aircraft on the static display were capable of VTOL.

The photographer was obviously trying to angle his shots downwards to block out the aeroplane that someone had inconsiderately parked there
