Great news if the the Super Constellation is coming to RIAT but please put it in bubble wrap till July Hasn't it been listed for RIAT on their own website the last two years? and had maintenance issues.

Yes, pretty much what I was going to say.
Wonderful aircraft (which I have thus far only managed to capture at Le Bourget in 2005), but sadly far from reliable. This is very much an “I’ll believe it when it has Cotswolds tarmac under its wheels”-type situation!

A cold war theme would be great this year while we still can - Sea Vixen XP924, Vulcan XH558 and Canberra XH134. A couple of MiGs too?
Re: RIAT 2013
And todays update 17/01
A meeting has been scheduled for later this month with the Vulcan To The Sky Trust (VTTS) to discuss the potential participation of Vulcan XH558 in next summer's flying display. The Vulcan continues to be one of UK airshows' greatest attractions and we are excited by the prospect of seeing, once again, XH558 at this year's event.
We were pleased to learn recently that our 2012 television advertisement won second place in the Commercial Television Advertisement: Large Show category at ICAS (International Council of Air Shows) in Las Vegas. It was runner-up to the Fort Wayne Air Show advert.
More than 20 members of the Friends of the Royal International Air Tattoo (FRIAT) braved last night's cold weather (16 January) to attend a special forum at Fairford to review last summer's event from a FRIAT perspective. It also outlined some of the benefits members could look forward to in the coming year. The Air Tattoo team was grateful to all those who took part, many of whom travelled long distances, to express their views.
Following our discussions with Breitling, and although nothing has been formalised, it was reassuring to read an external online forum post by pb643 which stated that a recent newsletter from the European Federation Historic Aviation, featured the following about the Breitling Super Connie: "For 2013 visits in Le Bourget (June), Fairford (July) and Sanicole (September) are planned, again respecting the country specific restrictions to carry passengers."
We read with interest the Czech International Air Fest (CIAF) website which announced that a Ukrainian Air Force Su-27 is scheduled to display at the event in September. We have invited the Ukrainians to take part and are exploring the possibility of the Su-27 participating in the Air Tattoo this summer.

Also if you missed it, ahead of possible budget cuts in the US defence budget. Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Larry Spencer and Acting Undersecretary of the Air Force Jamie Morin sent out a memorandum to all US major commands January 14th, with some potential bad news viewtopic.php?f=2&t=49308
Let's hope the US can get out the mess they are in
• Cancel flying “not directly related to readiness,” such as air shows, flyovers and familiarization rides.

Agree. Their deadline however is March so if they fail to get a budget and go over the cliff I think their lack of attendance at RIAT will be the least of it. Anyway being positive a lot of their attendance at RIAT has been static so not really flying at an airshow and the flights to and from have no doubt been classed as training anyway so fingers crossed not too big an impact if any.
Re: RIAT 2013
More space for Migs & Sukhoi's!
On a serious note, it would be such a shame for no US aircraft. With the likelihood that there will be no F-15 or F-16 display would be a shame and a lack of Herc's on the static would feel as if something is missing from the show. Lets hope ti all gets sorted.

Re: RIAT 2013
The current guidance on spending is only temporary until March 1st, if sequestration was to occur, then the US will be grounding all aircraft and bringing its ships back to the US, if a they expand the sequestration delay again the the current guidance on spending which has just been put in place will stay the same, but also more cuts will happen throughout the Fiscal year, If a final deal is struck to stop the sequestration, then the USAF may lift some of the restrictions.
Flights to Fairford airshow in the past was classed as training but i wouldn't expect the US to confirm untill after march
my advice is to scrap the F-35

I imagine you could rule all of the classic jets out apart from the Vulcan.
From the FRIAT thread, it states that although they appreciate people want to see them, they cannot justify the cost of Booking the Sea Vixen or Viggen. It is a shame that the worlds largest airshow cannot afford things like the Sea Vixen (that has done smaller shows like Shoreham and Yeovilton in recent years), and the Viggen which did a Sea front airshow in Jersey the other year.
Re: RIAT 2013
Gutted about the Viggen, was hoping to see it this year!
Re: RIAT 2013
Spanish Fast jets would be nice to see, been a bloody long time. (not Eurofighter) and those flying hoovers (aka Aviojets) either!

With the current situation Spain is in, im happy with whatever Spanish aircraft turns up
Re: RIAT 2013
It sure would be nice to see some Spanish jets this year but also I'd love to see some fighter jets from South America. Maybe a tanker from the US or even Brazil Colombia or Chile could drag them over and join the show.... Just a thought.

So did they actually give any justification, or did they merely say they can't justify it, well, because?

This is what is quoted from Boff180's thread.
They understand the "want" to see the Sea Vixen and/or Viggen but the cost is too much to justify them.

I am only guessing it is because it is run for charity, booking expensive civilian acts would eat into the pot of money at the end of the day. They will have some gaps to fill though if the reports of no Role Demo, no Hawk, No King Air and no Tutor displays (all RIAT regulars) are true.

My understanding is RIAT are not in a position to pick and choose. With current economic budgets of air arms under 'intense' scrutiny/review, it could be a while before we see Nations, almost willingly, send rarer aircraft overseas - if Spain opts to send a T-35 for static, they will take it!
Granted, last year was very impressive - Farnborough a contributing factor - but I would guess some of the fees involved for ROKAF, JASDF and FAC would have been quite steep, and as such, we shouldn't expect this year to go beyond that, or 'potentially' even match it.
With news from America, regarding their own budget cuts, and the likelihood of less RAF participation this year - not to mention a 'massive' rebuilding of finances across many of the Europen nations who participate; we should brace ourselves for 'potentially' difficult times ahead.

Not exactly...
This was explained/covered at FRIAT Forum, I quote from my summary thread...
Air Ops went into great detail over the aircraft inviting and booking procedure which was much appreciated. To sum up:- Each year they provide a list of Countries they would like to invite to the show to the Foreign Office who say yes or no, any that they say yes to then get a formal invite... this is the list published on the website. Following this up, the team visit the Embassy of every invited nation that has one in the UK to personally invite them to the show and provide a presentation. In addition, they write out to 1,000 squadrons to provide a personal invite. These requests are not just "please come and visit us" but specific aircraft types are requested especially if they are going out of service. However, they do meet resistance as foreign military want to show off their "New Shiny Toy" not their "Old and Battered Toy" to top brass. They are really trying, and also trying to sort out special mixed formations. It was also pointed out that a number of aircraft from certain nations that people constantly complain are not there, can't be invited as they are from nations the Foreign Office will not allow to be invited.

They are really trying.
I'm sure they are; but these things aren't free.
Out of interest, was anything raised about the budget for the forthcoming year? Do we know the long-term financial state? Probably not. In addition, there's A LOT going on behind the scenes that you, and me, aren't privy to.
We're living in the year 2013, there is no longer a bottomless pit of money.
Re: RIAT 2013
Reports and accounts for 2011-Feb 2012 are on the web. The figures for last year are not in yet. I believe they had to limit ticket numbers last year due to the weather.

Re: RIAT 2013
I have been reading the latest issue of Air Forces Monthly and on the back there was an interview with Tom Gibbons who shared what they are planning for RIAT 2013. they are.....
1) They have some major talks with ETPS with a view of holding a celebration of 70 years of ETPS.
2) They are hoping to hold a 'Typhoon meet'.
3)Lastly, they are trying to secure old favorites back again, such as B1-b and the U-2.
It does sound promising

Re: RIAT 2013
I seem to get the distinct feeling that the RAF are cutting back on all airshows except RIAT. Looking back at the updates RAF Air Command was hoping to support RIAT extensively with Flying VC-10, Tri-Star and then a C-17, Voyager and C-130 for Either flying or static. on top of this was a Tornado, BBMF, Red Arrows and a S&R helicopter along with some set pieces put forward. Will these still be going ahead or not???
Re: RIAT 2013
The Typhoon meet was mentioned Wednesday night, the senior guys in the RAF are up for the idea, the challenge is convincing all other operators to join in.

Re: RIAT 2013
I'd be happy with seeing a line of RAF Typhoons to be honest! A row of aircraft from 1, 3, 6, 11, 17, 29 squadrons all in different weapon fits...
