Post by adethorne »

Does anybody know what is the number of participating aircraft looking like compared to recent years?

I have this year as 175 aircraft, not including spare flying display aircraft.

I'm sure Andy will be along shortly to correct me, and provide a complete breakdown!

Blimey I thought we got about 220 last year. That said, for me its the best flying line up for a number of years even if the static is going to look a bit thin.

No F-35's on the ground at FIA... they get a plastic one.

Maybe that means we won't get the plastic F-35 at RIAT this year? It gets better and better!

Ok, I've got it to 176; what support aircraft are "confirmed"? Nothing listed on the RIAT site, unlike in previous years?

I don't think DBH list the spares either, many of which - Ramex, Zeus, Belgian F-16...were available for viewing as if they were static. There were 3 Mirage 2000Ns, 4 F-16s, 2 Typhoons I think all parked up at the far West end.

And as said I don't think the extra ones were ever listed.

Spares weren't listed, no. From memory, on the west area were:
2x MiG-29 (so 1 spare)
2x Belgian F16 (so 1 spare)
2x Zeus F16 (so 1 spare)
3x Ramex Delta Mirage (so 1 spare)
3x RAF Typhoon (perhaps separate Typhoons allocated to Synchro Pair and solo so only 1 spare?)

So there will be a fair few spares to count as well

Do hope there's a plan to repeat that this year - would love to get up close to the special scheme Ramex jet :-o

Does anyone know if it's happening again this year? Or, when we might found out? Thinking possibly tomorrow/Wednesday when things start arriving...

None confirmed - just from past practice. For instance, no doubt the Belgians will send an ERJ or Falcon, the French, Polish (2) and Spanish CASAs, Swiss Beech/Citation, Italian Herc, something Turkish plus Marshalls, BAE and L-M will send something(s). As for spares the Reds always seem to send 11 jets then each team add one, and most of the fast jets (& AH-64) save the Italian & USN add one; I've also taken the liberty of assuming the Greeks will send 2 Phantoms (hopefully)

Ahhh, gotcha - I was sticking to the bare minimum of what we know is coming (though I have added a Greek C-27J, supposedly due today) to start with, and I'll build up my list as things appear. All makes sense now!

With spares as well, I make it 196 aircraft confirmed currently.
