Park and Views
Park and Views
Which Park and View is better for departures on Monday?
Could some people post pictures from each enclosure so I can see what type of photos you can get from each one?
Thanks

Re: Park and Views
Doesn't all this depend on wind direction?
Re: Park and Views
I can only help on P+V East:
Arrivals - Landing and taxi shots:
Departures - just taxi shots:

Yes. No.
Re: Park and Views
P+V West..
You get some of the stuff from that end of the static taxiing out past you..
If your lens has a reach of 400mm you'll be fine, I only had the 70-300 last year and I struggled with some of the smaller stuff..

Re: Park and Views
I've only done the eastern end for departures so far. I'd love to try the other side, but it seems a little risky as some fighter pilots seem eager to demonstrate the climbing abilities of their mounts near the FRIAT grandstand (Indian SU-30s and RAF Typhoons spring to mind). Is this a common problem?

Wasn't too much of a problem last year! Can't remember being disappointed by anything climbing ridiculously high like the Flankers did.

Yeah, the parking for P&V east is on the other side of the road anyway.

Some of these may be from show days but you get the idea.

Thanks, I might just give it a try then. In 2007, it seemed the Flankers and Typhoons did a time to climb competition to me from P&V east. Then again, if the Americans are in the P&V east with their burgers again on Monday like in 2008, it's a different story entirely

Is a 300mm good for the FRIAT stand?

For takeoff shots like those above it's fine, possibly even too long! Looking through a selection of mine I was using somewhere in the 150-200mm range for most of the shots immediately in front of the stand and that's on a 1D MkII so a 1.3x crop. Obviously there are shots to be had to the left and right of the stand where you can use the extra reach of a 300mm.

Thanks for that, how about for the displays?

Re: Park and Views
300mm on a 400D will give you a field of view which is only slightly wider than my 400mm/1DMkII combo so you should be fine for most of the displays. The high parts will be out of reach but you'll be fine for most of the passes.
Re: Park and Views
I went to Western P&V for departure days, mainly because parking is on hardstanding, and I didn't want my new car upto its wheelarches in mud.
Got some taxi shots from that end aswell.

Relatively few aircraft taxied past the Western P & V enclosure on departure day last year, almost no fighters.
