In the past, a 300mm lens has been sufficient in the Viewing Village for most passes, with some cropping of the image after to fill the frame if that's your thing. Some low and fast passes do not need a 300mm lens. Some of the bigger display team formations fill the frame quickly at lower altitudes.

I currently take a Canon 100-400 Mk2 in with me. Happy with last year's results from the Viewing Village. This year, I am Mach 3 for the first time so will be in the FRIAT enclosure. But never had a bad time in the Viewing Village. That said, I've always sat on a plastic garden seat at the front. Not in the grandstand itself.
