RIAT 2018 flying timetable

Post by duffspeed »

Does anybody know when the flying timetable for each day is released? And could it be posted on here when it does become available? Could then plan a little beforehand.

I don't know if anybody else might find this useful too.

Or as per the RIAT website, they start selling the programme on the Tuesday ( 10th ) in the P&Vs
No doubt the usual will happen & someone ( or several people ) will post the details on social media, etc.

I've wondered why DBH don't just do that themselves.

Because they'd lose a lot of programme sales!

Not that there is any point in publishing the flying display timetable as it never is correct.

Occasionally claimed but never proved.
The posting of the timings on social media, newsgroups & forums has happened for years.
Possibly more people are likely to not buy the programme because of how much it costs or the increasing ratio of adverts-to-articles.

Can't remember if the RIAT app has the display timings on there, but if not DBH are missing a trick....the Wales Airshow's app has the timings, updated live, and costs a one-off £1:99 ( free downloads for following years )

From memory the APP has key timings in flying display and not all timings. Key timings rightly or wrongly (one for individual opinion) are usually the Reds, any special fly pasts etc

Gave up whenever I tried it as the WiFi at RIAT is utterly crap & not fit for purpose in my opinion.

Well if the bbmf are taking any part in the RAF 100 set pieces (whatever they end up being!) at the weekend that lets us know what time they'll be happening at any rate.

I wonder if the additional fighters will be based at Fairford and might be able to be on static display the test of the weekend? I know that's assuming the rest of the flight will be based there, but they usually are.

Am also very aware that is not as simple as moving aircraft into the static park, but a couple of little fighters might be feasible??

Might not be possible if they are taking part in other flypasts around the country as they do most weekends.

I’m pretty sure there were NOTAMS issued recently, saying that the flypasts are due to be around lunch time.

Do those timings suggest that they'll take part in the flypasts, then hold somewhere local until it's complete and then do their own bit before landing at Fairford? I assume they will be based at Fairford all weekend and not just appear for the flypasts/display and depart. I also imagine they're the only flypast asset that will be operating from Fairford.

Eek, fancy forgetting the Red Arrows. For fear of this becoming a Spanish Inquisition type joke, surely only the BBMF and the Red Arrows will take part in the fly past out of Fairford.

Looks like those going on the Friday won't get to see the trenchard formation then, shame.

In addition therefore, no Dakota in the largest of the flypasts? I thought it was in the original listing on the BBMF website, along with 4 Spitfires not 3, but I may be mistaken.

As does the RIAT website.

And as the main RIAT topic on here is still locked ( is that a record, 5 locked topics for RIAT? ) an interesting NOTAM on the NATS website :
B) FROM: 18/06/20 19:00
C) TO: 18/07/15 13:30
E) AMEND AIC M051/2018. RESTRICTION OF FLYING REGULATIONS - RAF 100 FLYPAST AT THE ROYAL INTERNATIONAL AIR TATTOO, RAF FAIRFORD 13-15 JULY 2018.
THE RESTRICTION OF FLYING REGULATIONS ARE ONLY APPLICABLE ON 13 JULY 2018.
ALL REFERENCES TO RESTRICTIONS OF FLYING ON 14 AND 15 JULY 2018 ARE TO BE DELETED.

The opening paragraph of M051/2018 says:
....to mark the centenary since its formation, a number of large formations of military aircraft will form flypasts over the Royal International Air Tattoo on each day from 13 to 15 July 2018.
The flypast formations will form up over Shropshire and route over Worcestershire and Gloucestershire before overflying RAF Fairford and disperse in to the south over Wiltshire.

So does the amendment mean that the flypasts planned for the Saturday & Sunday aren't going to be big enough to justify a separate restriction ( would it be cynical to think they'll just be the usual 'RAFAT plus 1' formations )?

No you are not mistaken, this is what was originally listed...

July 13th - RAF Fairford (RIAT) Time TBC - LHHSSSSD

Their recent event listing doesn't mention Yeovilton but they were meant to be getting a Spitfire, Hurricane and the Dakota?
