Basically, loads of Spits and Hurris were restored to film the RAF scenes. The Spanish sent over I think 2 He111s and 1 ME109. For the large German formation shots the film crew and some 'RAF' aircraft went over to Spain. However they had a problem in the fact that Spanish ground does not look like Kentish fields when viewed from the air, so they filmed all the large Heinkel/Messerschmitt shots looking upwards in Spain, but filmed all the downwards looking shots over England flying out of Duxford.

Confusing, eh?

Another chance to see the 1960s "Up and over" garage door, electric doorbell and Susannah Yorke's hairstyle & makeup, not to mention the underwear.

Just finished watching it on Film 4 today... that door bell scene gets me sniggering everytime - what a bummer leaving that visible....

Brilliant film nevertheless...

Never quite got over Susannah Yorke in her undies and am shocked to now discover that there were aircraft in the film as well.

A quick search (Maybe Wikipaedia - or was that something to do with Gary Glitter? I digress) will unearth a tale almost as amazing as the story it depicts. Assembling what was I think the twentieth largest (Something large anyway) air force in the World at the time, was largely due to the efforts of Hamish Mahaddie, who in wartime was known as Donald Bennets "Horse thief" responsible for nicking the better crews from bomber squadrons for the Pathfinders. All in all, the logistics needed for this film will still make you raise your eyebrows.

I think there was one air to air scene which had to be scrubbed, because 4 Jet Provosts bounced into it. So says the driver of one of them anyway.

You could add this to the Great britain thread!

The Polish scene is always a memorable one, although *anorak mode on* if you watch the scene where they break off, the rear three 'Hurricanes' are in fact Buchons as they did not have enough Hurris that were airworthy *anorak mode off*

OK, who just said repeat please?

The bit where the third "mudlark" corrects them both by telling them "Actually I think you'll find they're Spanish air force CASA 2.111s." in a Tony Osborne manner, was mysteriously edited from the film.

That is an amazing collection. I for one would love to see a Buchon or 2 in proper Spanish markings as a proper warbird rather than a bastardised Bf109 clone.

Has anyone else noticed how low one of the 109’s is during the airfield attack in the Battle of France chapter at the beginning of the film? Now that was low!
