G-FWAB Being Dis-assembled In T2 North

Postby Boghopper Mk 11a on Mon 11 Jan 2010, 5:05 pm

It seems as though Tom Blairs FW 190-A8 that is based at Duxford is in the process disassembled by a unknown team.

Reason / Destination unknown

Shame to see her leave but was only a matter of time.

Well I'd rather it went to another country and was able to fly than having it sit at Duxford forever. You never know, if it's going somewhere not too far away it might return on some random weekend in July on a different register

Indeed. Chances are, she was never going to fly in the UK. At least there's hope we'll see light under her tyres abroad. That's what really matters; the local is ultimately irrelevant. Hey, at least we still have Christophe Jacquard's FW-190 to entertain us.

Stupid question for those "in da biz" - theoretically, could you register a warbird in, say, France, but base it primarily in the UK, flying it back to France during the winter 'off season', or would the CAA put their foot down? I know TFC's TF-51D is on the US register still, but it was imported from overseas. I'm guessing it'd be a different story to try and register a UK resident warbird overseas without intent to base it there in the near future...

All these WWII type aeroplanes returning back to Germany just before the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. Mmmmmm

Can you imagine an unannounced massed Luftwaffe sneak attack at an airshow this year, where they fly in from elsewhere. 6 Buchons and 2 FW-190s pulling up from the valley and bouncing Biggin Hill would be pretty spiffy (yes, I know the FW-190s weren't around for the BoB, but to Hell with historial accuracy  )

Historical accuracy doesn't bother the Americans

Indeed. Imagine a BoB "re-enaction" involving only "genuine" BoB survivors, would be a pretty quiet affair wouldn't it?
nothing is confirmed at a show until it's u/c hits the tarmac or it's running in for it's display.....

Those two baby Merlins don't make much of a racket, unfortunately (though it is undoubtedly a sweet, sweet sound). At least they wouldn't have to worry about fuel and pilot availability!

Could be a lot worse - I have nightmares where the Isaacs Fury is bounced by the 1/3 scale FW-190 replica, which is intercepted by squadron of Mk26 "Spitfires"...

I think we can run with this...

So the Fw190s and the Buchons are intercepted by a number of assorted Spitfires, while the French-based Ju52 gets walloped by some Hurricanes.

And if we're going to have the Fw190s, why not the Me262s? The Martin-Baker and Air Atlantique Meatboxes could get involved then... :blinky:

The 190 is now in Germany.
The Buchon is not owned by Meier Motors.

Do you know who does own them?

On a semi-related note for those interested, here is a photo from the Meier Motors facilityin Germany, where several independently owned aircraft (including Chris Vogelgesang's Yak 3 and what looks like the Fighter Academy's Yak 9) have been hangared for winter maintenance. Quite a collection in there!

EMarsh,
Your photo is a little bit outdated and taken from the Aeroplane website (http://www.aeroplanemonthly.co.uk/news/ ... 70936.html)
Yak-3 "White 12" is now flying again as "White 24".

Darlin Ann is no more. She is now painted as Lucky Lady VII.
The Green (Yak) C.11 is now bare metal and polished with red stars, VERY impressive!
