UKAR's 15th Anniversary

UKAR's 15th Anniversary

Postby Ben H on Thu 07 Oct 2010, 12:00 am

For those you you who like to keep tabs on these things, you many have noticed that 2011 will be UKAR's fifteenth birthday year.
We've put our heads together and come up with a few ways to mark the anniversary, but of course the site and forum would never have been so successful without your help!

As such, it would be great if you could post any suggestions you have for how we could celebrate - all ideas will be discussed and the best will hopefully come to fruition in the new year!

Some of the thoughts we've had so far:

* 2011 Calendar and Christmas Cards
* Merchandise/Clothing
* A UKAR Members Social

Now, over to you!

could talk to the organisers at Kemble or RIAT about sizing up the UKar enclosures and holding something there?

If we're holding it anywhere in the off-season, it will be warm, covered and with fully-stocked bar on site! :grin:

How about a WI style calender of some of the UKAR members set against their favorite aircraft. Slightly more interesting than a run of the mill one and create a bit of free publicity.

YES to all three ideas there Ben.
As to the idea of a Fly in, Could something be arranged that would benefit a charity and also get the forums name more publicity and maybe more members too.

What about a raffle too with prizes such as flights in a Tigermoth, a Dragon Rapide or maybe a Harvard, Second and 3rd prizes could be logo'd merchandise and calendars etc.

Whatever is done must benefit the forum and be fun.

Unless aircraft owners were willing to donate prizes like flights etc, I think we'd be looking at something a little cheaper. UKAR's not rolling in money :lol:

Indeed, much appreciated. :clap:

Likewise if any other museums, collections, pilots, owners, organisers, publishers, model retailers, display teams et al would like to donate prizes or goodies to give away for our 15th Anniversary celebrations, then please get in touch with a Staff member.

Remember, UKAR is, and always will be, run for the members benefit, not our own!

No problem – I’ll perhaps try and organise some Night Shoot tickets for 2011! :whistle: Sorry I just couldn’t resist!!

I’m sure that I can arrange for some free Admission tickets (general and special event) and I’ll try and get a voucher or something to spend in the Museum Shop.

A member social would be a good idea, done before at heathrow, then going bowling and then getting very drunk later!!

I think the calendar could be made up from winning shots from POTW this year, but personally I think that it should only be shots taken in the UK as it's the UKAR Calendar.

In a lighter vein (and hopefully seen as such).

This could be staged in a field near Duxford. The team permutations are endless but a couple of suggestions:

Mods v The Rest

Alleged Freeloaders v Ticket Holders

'Dress' could be optional.

Afterwards, those that are still speaking could retire to the local for a few pints!

On a serious note, other than 'handbags at ten paces' this forum stands out for the photographs and the skills of those who take them. How about approaching somewhere to do a special photoshoot for you?
