Harrier & QE2

Post by Bjcc »

Head up for anyone in SOuthampton this afternoon.
Just found this on a timetable of events surrounding the QE2 final departure from Southampton

"1.40pm
Planned flypast by an RAF Harrier from No 1 (F) Squadron which has links to the QE2 through the Falklands campaign in 1982. The Harrier is planning a slow speed 'stalk' up the river from the south to the QE2 where it will turn, bow, turn away and then leave. The hover is planned about 150 metres off the stern of QE2. "

Might this be affected by the QE2 running onto the sand bank this morning as it entered Southampton?

Unlikely, unless the harrier is doing a sub impression. Having looked out of my window, I can confirm that the QE2 is parked up at the Passenger terminal in the Port.

Once had a memorable voyage on the QE2 from Southampton to New York. The weather was pants on the first night which resulted in the whole crew and passengers being very very ill!! It was truly fantastic and an experience I shall never forget. It is fitting that another British icon should bid it farewell!!

It was a spec from Town Quay, probably a good view from Hythe Pier though.....
