This lay-by has also been in the papers recently due to couples having certain 'activities' there !!!

Oh yeh, I know it.

So anyone know if the entire formation WILL break up after Windsor or maintain it to brize??

Lambo thanks for the frequency suggestion, that seems to make sense plus the BBMF and Reds bespoke frequencies.

Ahem excuse my ignorance but what in hell is Voyager-I thought it was a space probe!!!!

Leased over a 27 years 14 Voyager refuellers at a cost of £750m up to 2035 RAF

Farnborough on 123.225 would be worth a listen unless anyone has any others in mind

In responce to the reouest for info for the flypast i have recreated this google image
Zoom in (real dimensions: 1024 x 909)Image
Flypast viewing places by eagle driver, on Flickr
Depictions show the best places to my mind to view the flypast
1 , Windsor the carpark on the A332 to the south of windsor.
The A332 runs very much parallel with the long mile for much of its course through great park only swinging away at the southern end for the majority of this road along the eastern side is a public rest area accessable from two points north and south of the rest area ,there is also a small car park on the west side of the A332 opposite the north entrance

2, Staple hill Chobham surrey also known as chobham clump
Situated to the north of Chobham village this area is the last high ground that the flypast will cross before reaching windsor .
There are two car park,s on chobham common one is close to the junction of the B383 and the B386 just to the north of where the B383 crosses the M3
The second and smaller car park is actually on top of Staple hill on the the road that forks right at the northern edge of chobham village ,
From the other car park cross the motorway heading south and then take the first left to the top of the hill
Last viewing place i would suggest is on the Hogs back A31
Along the Hogs back there is a large layby on the westbound carridgeway just after the B3000 puttenham /normandy turn off ,

According to the RAF website the nine Typhoons are opening events at Windsor Castle with a flypast at 1100 BST. The main flypast, billed at 'tri-service' is due at the Castle at 1226BST and finishes at 1231BST. So that should help those thinking of going to Hog's Back or other area en route to asses the timing.

By clicking on the 'Graphic Illustration' link at the bottom of the page, you can see where the elements are originating. I must admit I hadn;t realised there was a rotary element as well. Final page of that link shows the actual format of the flypast:

Element1: 3 Diamond boxes containing 4 helicopters in each (Puma/Chinook/Merlin/Sea King - RAF: Apache/Lynx/Gazelle/Bell 212 - AAC: Lynx/Sea King/Merlin/Sea King - RN)

Element 2: BBMF Lancaster & 4 Spitfires

Element 3: Tucano '60'

Element 4: Hercules x2

Element 5: VC-10 & Tornado x2

Element 6: Hawk 'EIIR'

Element 7: Red Arrows (no mention of the Voyager so maybe that is a late addition)

78 aircraft in total in the formation

NOTE: No mention of the Typhoons there as they are not part of the main formation and only appearing to open proceedings at 1100.

I was going to go to Bisley Camp but looking again at the track from Goodwood, I think it may be a bit far off to the west of the track. So for me I reckon it's got to be somewhere along the Long Walk. Just need to find out where to park!

Gives details ,no mention of Typhoons but that is still on for 1100 at the start I believe.

I was working on Goodwood but I think that means no BBMF, OK I can live with that, no choppers because they will join north of that but most importantly looking at the diagram, the Tucanos may skirt around, is that how others see it?

Looks like the Brize, Bournemouth and Yeovilton elements will come in over Portsea Island, Tucanos somewhere near or north of Goodwood, Rotary elements somewhere north of Haselmere and BBMF north of Aldershot. This will mean the rotary element will pass with BBMF slotting in behind and then the rest. Those locations are pure guess work going by the graphic that has been released.

The corridor timing is 1205 to 1226 BST with the arrival and flypast over Windsor timed at 1226 to 1231 BST.

Looks like the 6 ship Typhoons will be doing the fly past at 11:00 and the rest of the flypast will be at 12.26 starting with the Helicopters.

Anyone know what frequency's they could be using?

All timings are a few posts up along with the complete make up of the formation.

There will be a practice with all helicopters at Odiham tomorrow. Don't know the times for it though guessing around the same time as the main flypast.
