I'm sure an RAF pilot who has been through years of extremely tough, intensive training (with a portion of it aimed at mental toughness) isnt going to throw his toys out of his pram like you have on seeing some criticism on an internet forum.

That's the whole point of the discussion; the display shows us a fraction of what "she" can do.

You guys are spoiled rotten in UK land, I have seen the Typhoon display twice at the Salthill Air Show in Ireland and I thought it was outstanding, the noise and agility of the aircraft is brilliant. I have since been to Eastbourne and Bournemouth where I was lucky enough to see the Typhoon display. You do not realise how lucky you are to have such an amazing aircraft display across the UK each year. Go out and enjoy what is an outstanding aircraft and hats off to all of the past and present Typhoon display pilots for the great displays they have done. Wish I could get to see one this year but sadly am not able to get away.

First welcome to the forum.

Second it is an aviation "Discussion" forum which means that enthusiasts are entitled to an opinion, not just happy clapping. It appears that you are shocked that the vast majority of those on here don't agree with you which is fine, as its all about sharing opinions.

Personally you haven't convinced me as your argument seems to focus around the fact that you describe it as "amazing fantastic scary emotional" with little to support it and no comparison.

I don't think anybody here has slighted the pilot for his role, I believe most of us appreciate the hard work Scott Loughran has obviously put in and the main point here is regarding the RAF and Eurofighter 'bigging up' the aircraft and its capabilities, despite the fact that they do not seem to show it off, especially when other fast jet displays eg the Belgian F-16 or French Rafale are present. I suggest you go back and read the thread once more, and maybe you will understand the context better.

Fair point. But we're even luckier to have the likes of the Rafale, F16, C27, GR4 etc of which give far better displays.

I totally understand what you are saying but I just don't get the people who are basically saying we would rather see no display at all 'cos its very restricted and pants rather than the amazing awe inspiring bits we do see...after all, the applause from the crowds and their faces says it all in 'my opinion'.

.
. Of
course, its main purpose is not to display at airshows, but that begs the question, why bother displaying it at shows if it's going to be a dumbed down display?

I guess you are in Ireland.

The RAF Typhoon is displaying in Northern Ireland 11th August. ( that's if he doesn't decide not to bother after reading this thread -- apparantly ! ).

I don't think anyone would not like to see any Typhoon display, just that some people think that it could do an awful lot more -- and based on what I have seen at high altitude over the Fylde Coast some days, it looks a lot more agile than it does at airshows.

It's nice that you are enthusiastic cazwhitehouse, I too would rather have a bland display than no display at all, but the point that most people are trying to make in this thread is that the display could be so much more than it is; the Italians do fantastic displays with the Typhoon, so why is this not the case with the RAF?

Well hope for uk security Scott is made of stronger stuff TBH.

From my point of view having worked around the inustry and being proud to be British, i want it to make me proud of it1 i dont like the seeing the Excellent French and a 40 year old plane blow its socks off when we all feel it need not be.

As for the comment in an earlier page regarding it is not there to display it is a war machine, I totally diasagree (as someone else did) It is a tool to protect our nations security (this when our government decides) makes it a war machine some of the time.
A correct interaction with the tax payer, aids recruitment and justifies spending to some, and very important that we have a degree of openess and interaction.

No, read it again. At no point did I say I'd rather it didn't display at all, as you implied. Simply if they're going to display it, don't dumb it down needlessly.

cazwhitehouse wrote:even for a short time than nothing

I would view this thread as healthy positive criticism. We are all sure the aircraft can do more, so let's see it...

You used to get this sort of tosh in the old Lightning,F15,Phantom etc days ...
your going to get days when the one will sometimes display better than the other whatever plane your rooting for....
I'm longing for the Raphael* to have an off day at RIAT
I recall standing next to a chap who harped on about how the Mig 29 would make the F16,Tornado F3 look like tortoises with arthritis, but after it displayed he turned to his mate and said" That was a tame one ...its usually much better than that!"
maybe the Mig had an off day..maybe that explains it...they can vary a bit!

*
It should of course be Rafale

I would love for others to see just what the Typhoon really is capable of as the test pilots do give it a workout over Morcambe bay etc,I criticized the first inception of Typhoon EAP,only for me to eat a large slice of humble pie when I did witness on a few occasions the sheer stunning capabilities this aircraft has. However I will state that I think the RAF aren't going to open up the taps on a huge display from the Typhoon for reasons only they know,I like the aircraft after criticizing years ago what I labled a "Sports jet" (EAP)
Planes?,PLANES?!! WE'VE got plenty of planes!

Fair point! ....I would add the Hawk, Tutor & Be200 to the 'lets nip to the loo' list too! I've left out the Tucano as at least they sound good!

I also note that most RAF displays are way too high which doesn't help with the perception of a 'not very exciting' display routine. I've always thought that 2 or 3 Typhoons of whatever performing a tailchase routine as in some of the Warbird displays would provide for much more excitement! (....and cost of course).

Noticed someone lamenting the loss of the Harrier display. Most that I saw were a matter of just hovering up & down the runway from memory. Not very exciting in my opinion either.

Could it be that all the RAF display pilots spend some time at Coningsby getting 'gentle' display lessons from the BBMF?

A few years ago when the Tucano displayed, some RIAT staff could identify it from the sound as "for sure this are the RJ Falcons".

Do you really think that any RAF personnel spend time reading the bulls%te that comes out of the armchair design engineers, wannabe pilots that
frequent ukar, because if they are on here I wish they would come out the shadows, the RAF display the aircraft that way because they choose
to, and as for the French bird I think it's looks like something Saab designed in the fiftys. We could get Typhoon to display with it's blo*dy great
refuelling probe out that would look "nice"
