Considering the historic and infamous nature of the Stuka, I am really suprised there are no restored examples in the air. I know there is the 7/10ths (?) replica in the States but I'm not sure this is still flying either. :dunno:

Turns out its not a Stuka after all. The following quote is taken from Archaeology.org:

Researchers thought that a World War II-era plane discovered in the Baltic Sea may be a rare JU87 Stuka dive bomber, but after examining some of the parts recovered by German military divers, they have identified it as a larger JU88. “It looked just like the Stuka in the underwater pictures – everything that we had brought up had been pieces that were used in the JU87 – so there was no reason to doubt it. But this find is perhaps historically even more important,” said Captain Sebastian Bangert of the German Military Historical Museum. The JU88 was used as a dive bomber, but it also served as a tactical bomber and was flown at night.

If that photograph (and the underwater ones) are of the aircraft that's been recovered...then it's definitely NOT a Ju88, and does indeed look like a Ju87.

The clues are low wing not mid wing, fixed undercarriage, inverted gull wing, no engines on the wing, long-narrow cockpit...it's a Stuka!

It seems strange that a German Museum employee cannot recognise a Stuka??????????

The images used in the ABC.es article are from the recovery of a Stuka in Greece, 2006.

The Ju-88 didn't have flaps like this in the photo - http://www.haf.gr/newsmedia/stuka_07.jpg

I'd say it is a Ju-87 110%, Nice find too.
Russian & Eastern European Fly-In 2013 details TBA.

Yes that picture is from a Ju-87 recovered in GREECE in 2006 !!!

i.e. -- NOT the supposed JU 87, which might be a JU 88 which the OP refers and references -- I can't see in this thread or any websites liked from this thread, any pictures of what has been recovered from The Baltic this month -- you are all commenting on pictures from another recovery.
