RAF VC10 fleet retirement plans

Sadly, it makes rather depressing reading but of interest - RAF squadron commander details VC10 retirement plans

101 Sqn commanding officer Wg Cdr Kevin Brookes said the fleet is due to be gradually whittled down over the next nine months. "My out of service date at the moment is stated as 31 March next year," he said.

However, he hinted that these plans could be subject to change: "I was supposed to have six VC10s last year. There are changes and discussions all the time about when these aircraft retire - but that's the basic plan at the moment."

A beautiful classic soon to be gone.

I know we should be more capable, but modern airliners lack soul.

Thanks for that, glad to hear XR808 is due to go to Cosford this is one type that really deserves a place in the RAF museum. I'm still hopeful ZD241 will survive, but I guess that will be largely based on luck

Will really miss the VC-10, what a beautiful aeroplane

Be nice if one could go to Bruntingthorpe and be kept in taxing condition!

I'm sure I've read somewhere that that indeed is the plan, really do hope ZD241 is the lucky candidate! Be a great shame if that wonderful sound disappears.

I believe 807 will be the last one out the door.

Did you mean 807 ? XR807 has already gone and was broken up at Bruntingthorpe in 2010
