Hampshire Police said officers were called at 16:55 BST after the aircraft came down in a field at the village's Army Aviation Centre.

The pilot, who was flying alone, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has yet to be informed.

Hampshire Police are working with the Air Accident Investigation Branch to establish the cause of the crash.

The thread on the Key forum partially identifies the type lost. Very sad news.

I'd remind people the GWDT were planning on operating two different monoplane types for 2013 - the Junkers CL1 lookalike, and the new Eindecker replica.

Was a very enjoyable display everytime I've seen them, if the key publishing thread is correct of course.

Rest in peace, regardless.

There's a good reason why wing warping went out of fashion a century ago and ailerons were introduced. Very sad.
