Donation sent, I first encountered the Sea Vixen a couple of years ago down at Yeovilton what a lovely old fast jet. I hope the team who look after it can keep it flying for many years to come

Re: Sea Vixen XP924 Thread
Thankyou all very much much for your support and positive comments about the Sea Vixen Appeal. The team really appreciate it.
We will be updating the Navy Wings Website and social media streams regularly with news about the campaign and the Sea Vixen, a direct link to the donation page can be found here https://www.navywings.org.uk/support-us ... peal-2017/ Donors get entered into a prize draw to win a Sea Vixen cockpit experience.
The Sea Vixen is shaping up very well, with work progressing by our talented engineers and we do plan to have her in the skies in May (with a fair wind). Here is a link to the Sea Vixen's Oily Rag Engineering update https://www.navywings.org.uk/news-blog/ ... hangar-15/ and we are planning a variety of 'In Hangar' videos and interviews with the team so you can see the work first hand. The Sea Vixen will be displaying at the Navy Wings annual supporter day on Saturday 6th May at RNAS Yeovilton and then Duxford Air Show. The rest of the display schedule is currently being worked on and we shall release the events as they are confirmed, with supporter donations it looks to be a very exciting and full season. Navy Wings has a series of exciting events and experiences planned too so watch this space.
Fair Winds & Following Seas to all!

Certainly one of the best things in the show Circuit in the UK. Probably this will be the only draw for me to go to the Navy show at Shuttleworth. Fingers Crossed
Cheers

Great to see Navy Wings posting on UKAR & getting the appeal aired to the wider audience. What an apparent gear-change we've seen from them over the last week or so? The youtube production linked in the post about 5 above this is a great effort, providing additional exposure & should be well received throughout.

Exciting News. The last Flying Sea Vixen has been confirmed to fly at Abingdon Air Show on Sunday 14th May.
Since the official launch of the Sea Vixen Appeal last Wednesday which started with the wonderful BBC Points West Coverage, we have been delighted with the response from supporters. Navy Wings is now also pleased to announce a very special ‘Name In A Plane’ experience, to help raise funds to keep the last flying Sea Vixen in the skies. The name of your choice will be included into the nose cone of the Sea Vixen for the 2017 season, for a £100 donation. This is a unique opportunity for friends, family, a treat to yourself or as a tribute in memory of a loved one. This would also make a very special Valentines Gift! You will receive a certificate of inclusion via email and the knowledge you are directly helping to keep one of the last remaining cold war jets in the sky. Reserve your space here

Great to see Navy Wings engaging on UKAR. Lets hope that fundraising amount continues to climb in the coming weeks.
Re: Sea Vixen XP924 Thread
Agreed it's great Navy Wings have contributed direct, so glad "Vicky" is well on the mend.

Great to see XP924 have its own dedicated discussion - even better to see Navy Wings engaging with the community.
I do have a soft spot for the Sea Vixen.

Re: Sea Vixen XP924 Thread
The kind of money they need to properly run the historic flight is peanuts against the entire naval budget. Having seen the obscene waste the forces do overpaying for everything, it wouldn't take long to make savings.

Surely individual threads highlighting latest news and fund raising should suffice?
Maybe it's because so many people are angry about the Vulcan situation, they now feel the Sea Vixen is now more deserving of their donations?
I wasn't actually thinking of the Vulcan, I was thinking of other aircraft like NX611 Lancaster and the Shackleton. In my opinion it would be unfair for the forum owners to push one appeal over another as they are all deserving causes.
Anyway it's moot as it hasn't happened, much to UKAR's credit; but as a self confessed historic jet enthusiast, I know where my donations will be going!

News from the Sea Vixen!
XP924 is only days away from emerging from 15 Hangar at RNAS Yeovilton. The covers on the recently re-installed port engine are going into place, the starboard wing repair is in its final fettling stage, the pilot’s cockpit is being repopulated with instruments and the autostab gyros are being refitted. The annual maintenance elements are also nearing completion and the flap repairs and re-rigging are now complete after nearly 7 months of work! The ejection seats are being re-installed next week and, following the installation of the accumulator, we shall be carrying out undercarriage retraction tests. That should give us the go ahead for ground runs, leak checks and systems testing followed by high power performance ground runs and taxy tests. All this in the next two to three weeks and our first flight of the season is scheduled for the second week in April.
We are now just over 10% of the overall £150,000 target. Navy Wings is dedicated to keeping one of the last few remaining Cold War jets in the skies as a focus of remembrance for those that served the Nation and to inspire future generations.
So many ways to help, spread the word via social media, sign up as a Navy Wings Supporter or donate following the link below.

Re: Sea Vixen XP924 Thread
Thanks for the excellent update. Good Luck with the final stretch to a return to flight. Here's hoping that the Sea Vixen actually flying will stir the masses into donating to the Appeal. I have to say that £15,000 is a start, but I'm personally appalled that a certain other ex-special jet can get that in a week!.....& the Vixen is a flyer!

I completely agree with this, it's an absolute scandal to be honest!
Another great update Navy Wings, I have my fingers crossed and the donate details saved for this months payday. Such a worthy aircraft and organisation.

Re: Sea Vixen XP924 Thread
Just shows VTST are better at fundraising due to having a larger supporter base.....after all, the most recent £100k was raised from only 2500 or so people.
XH558 may no longer be flying, but when it was it attended most ( all? ) of the major airshows - weather, technical & PtoF issues not withstanding - and garnered a lot of publicity.
To be fair to the Sea Vixen operators, for whatever reasons it hasn't exactly done that many airshows in recent years ( only the one RIAT unless I'm mistaken, and that was as part of a 'blink & you'll miss it' massed flypast for 'Fly Navy 100' )

A scandal that the vixen hasn't been at riat more in all honesty.
I mean what a draw, loads of europhiles there would love, I'm sure, to see it displayed. Boy I know I would.
I've only seen it fly the once and that was in Red Bull colors flying in to be in the static many moons ago.

And ??
OW is one show......what about the other 'biggies' ( or even the smaller ones )
Several years ago I asked the organisers of the Wales Airshow ( Swansea ) why they didn't book XH558 as it was displaying at Yeovilton the same weekend, the answer was that because of the cost they could book a couple of smaller acts instead.
I received the same answer when I asked them why they didn't book the Sea Vixen.

I don't think we see it much because it is either too expensive for organisers or is broken
Re: Sea Vixen XP924 Thread
Foxy had a pretty good serviceability rate last year up until Eastbourne. Certainly must be said of the Vulcan that it's own serviceability was pretty darn good, and the same for the Canberra during its brief stint on the circuit.
It seems to be with the Sea Vixen that when she breaks she breaks properly. Having said that, with the support she now has at Yeovilton hopefully she too can A: attain and sustain a high serviceability rate, and B: attain more publicity. It's good that the team already have several bookings early on in the new season, let's hope there are more to come.
