Re: Miscellaneous Newark Air Museum News 2014
Some updates have gone live on the museum website.
One is about the Monospar restoration, with more details in here!
The low level fence stanchions to replace the cones have now been ‘deployed’; work continue son the Ashton and in Display Hangar 2 panelling up continues on the Dominie. To illustrate this work the Restoration & Behind the Scenes album has been updated with photographs!
Sadly no donations came in for 'project cone-free photos!'

For anyone that might be interested a small album of photographs has been added in here that shows some early views of the museum and its first sites from the 1970s.

Very nice.
Re: Picture 10, is the concrete the aircraft are on the runway? Do you still have any of the five structures?

Re: Miscellaneous Newark Air Museum News 2014
Yes the concrete in picture 10 is one of Winthorpe's former wartime runways.
When you say structures I presume that you mean buildings, if that's correct then the largest one shown in picture 10 was dismantled and moved to the current site, where it is now used as our on-site workshop. It currently houses the Harvard restoration and more recently one of the wings from the Monospar.

Re: Miscellaneous Newark Air Museum News 2014
It’s my pleasure.
What you need to ask Santa for is a copy of the new RAF Winthorpe book – the runway configurations and details of when they were laid are all detailed in there.
I have just parcelled up a couple of copies to send off to some competition winners in the East Midlands; the post office beckons tomorrow!!

Re: Miscellaneous Newark Air Museum News 2014
During the last 24 hours there have been a few updates to the albums in here - a small restoration update and ‘one that got away’ in the early days of the museum.
Please don’t forget that during the forthcoming Christmas Holiday NAM is open every day (10am until 4pm – last museum admission at 3pm; last museum shop admission 3.40pm), but will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year Day.
We hope that you may decide to pay us a visit so that we can end the year on another high – this year we have recorded our best visitor figures for more than 19 years; and monthly visitor numbers have been higher than last year in 10 months out of 11; please try to help make it 11 out of 12. Plus our Gift Aid claim looks likely to be the best ever!

Despite the overnight snow the museum has been able to open this morning there’s a status report in here to keep people advised as the situation will be monitored and it may close early.

Re: Miscellaneous Newark Air Museum News 2014
There wasn't as much snow at Newark Brian, as there was in Nottingham where I live (the first few miles were a little hairy this morning).
I managed to get a quick trip round the site before the museum opened and grabbed a few pictures in some nice early morning light. I then helped do some stock taking in the museum shop - some nice people kept coming in to spend their Christmas money; mostly just after I'd counted something!!
By the time left the only thing that was 'airborne' was the Canberra T19; with the PR7 and Rallye having returned to terra firma safely!!

The only white stuff we had at Duxford was frost and that started melting as the sun got a bit higher.
