Spotting at Meiringen AFB, Switzerland

Post by bushman »

I hope this topic is posted under the correct section

I will be visiting Switzerland in June this year, and I wanted to find out if anyone can offer some advice as to the spotting options and flying activity at the base during June.

Anyone able to offer some wisdom here?

In the morning you can go to the "guards office" and ask if and on what time they will fly that day. 9 out of 10 they will tell you the time and number of aircraft.

The link you need is here:

The airfield is closed at the end of June and there will be no Tiger ops during the month. Normally you could expect about two flights of Hornets in the morning and two in the afternoon. Unfortunately June is traditonally a quiet month for flying in Switzerland due to tourism.

There are many good points for photography around the airfield and there is also a viewing deck on top of the public restraunt which isn`t too bad for photgraphy in the afternoon when the Sun`s gone around a little. The restraunt is a good place to eat from 12 - 13:30, it`s just across the runway from the spotters carpark.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks a lot for that  I'm heading through there after the Paris airshow and thought I'd make the most of it
