And in Italy.....Comic Beppe Grillo, who leads the 5-Star Movement, has received a dramatic boost to his ratings after an opinion poll put his party up five points ahead of the ruling centre-left Democratic Party (PD), according to Reuters.
and from Defense news
ROME — Italy’s anti-establishment Five Star Movement, the political party vying for top spot in polls ahead of elections due by next year, has committed to scrapping the F-35 program if it takes office.
“There will be no ifs or buts about leaving the F-35 program,” said Tatiana Basilio, a Five Star member of the Italian parliament during a presentation of the party’s defense manifesto on Thursday.
Italy is currently due to purchase 90 F-35s and has already taken delivery of seven F-35As from its own final assembly line at Cameri in northern Italy. Three are now flying from the Italian Air Force’s Amendola Air Base and four are involved in in pilot training at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona.

Looks as though Paris will see a bit more of the F-35's capabilities in terms of manoeuvrability.

There are some videos on YouTube of the validation - looks very high, but maybe that's normal at Paris Airshow?

I'm always amused when The Guardian or the Daily Mail are pilloried as propaganda outlets, yet people unflinchingly cite a de facto political propaganda mouthpiece and somehow think RT is the superior institution as a result. What next "HMS Queen Elizabeth big smelly aircraft carrier unlike mighty Admiral Kuznetsov" as a credible source?
Re: More F-35 woes...
Except you also have active RAF personnel telling you the aircraft is completely useless...... but yeah... you know best
Re: More F-35 woes...
Unless those serving RAF personnel are either flying the F-35 or maintaining it then I wouldn't take their word for it either.

Re: More F-35 woes...
Latest issue....
The inbuilt night vision system into the Helmet doesn't work unless the moon is out.
The issue was first discovered during night testing ops aboard USS America last November where the test pilot had to resort to guessing where the ship was and his relative position to the deck in order to land - he couldn't see the ship!
Surely the sensitivity of the system is the first thing you test when developing a night vision camera???

'Ladies and gents, the war is cancelled tonight because the moon hasn't appeared'
I can't for a second REALLY believe they are that stupid?

Re: More F-35 woes...
Again. Let's not let the truth get in the way of a good story.
The F35 completed a series of test night landings, including normal and "fairly" extreme darkness night landings.
On this attempt, they picked a moonless night, turned off all the ships lights and all the landing lights on the F35 and tried an extreme dark landing.
This was successful, but a bit scary as the display was foggy and it was hard to pick out bits of the ship or the deck. It still landed though.
Try landing a hornet on a moonless night with no visual landing lights or aircraft landing lights.
There are a number of "quick" fixes before the software is changed to work in extreme, extreme darkness, short of waiting for the moon to appear, these are:
1. Turn on the F35 landing lights.
2. Throw some fluorescent lights around the deck if there is a total powerfail on the carrier.
3. Wave some torches around or hang them from the superstructure.
4. Turn on some lights on the carrier if you have power.
5. Divert to a ship with lights and melt their flight deck if it's not an F35 carrier.
6. Divert to a land based airport with lights.

Excerpts from Av Week:
Lt. Gen. Mark Poffley, the deputy chief of the UK defense staff, told a parliamentary defense committee on Nov. 21 that he was “sympathetic” to the idea that the overall number of F-35s being purchased by Britain could fall, saying “this was the reality of the world we are living in.”
The uncertainty over F-35 numbers emerges as the defense ministry braces itself for a reappraisal of the decisions made during the SDSR. The assessment, announced by the Cabinet Office in July, is being conducted by Mark Sedwill, Britain’s national security advisor, and is expected to result in additional defense cuts to try to close an independently estimated £20 billion black hole in the ministry’s finances.
But officials also hinted again that the UK could be looking to purchase a mix of F-35 variants for future requirements, with Poffley saying that “judgment [on future fleet mix] will be taken later.”
