Indradhanush 2015

Post by George Aldrich »

Hi, hope this is the right place. I didn't think it quite fitted into the Heads Up section as I don't know about them yet.
I am planning to visit Coningsby for the first time this summer, and I have seen the Exercise Indradhanush is bringing SU-30s and Midas tankers to Coningsby, some people say they leave in July, others say August, I have heard the 30th of August they should be leaving. Can anyone possibly confirm this, I do appreciate this might very well be a difficult one!

There have been some conflicting times for arrivals, but its a case of they'll get here sometime late this week, probably Friday morning.

Su30s will go into Coningsby and the Il78 into Brize Norton. A couple of support C-17s will also be landing somewhere probably Coningsby, and that was rumoured for today.

As for length of stay, they'll be off around August 3rd as far as I know. Good hunting.

Coningsby have issued a no visitors NOTAM between 16th July and 3rd if August. So I would say they are expecting either the fighters or support on Thursday. With the distances involved it might change

Just to advise all (as a spotter group tweeted this and made it public knowledge).

The Indians are delayed and now arrive early on Friday. I believe (but don't quote me on this) the spotters group in question were saying 0845Z for the IL78 at

They're night stopping in Saudi at the mo

C17 is serial CB-8008 c/s IFC2415 according Mode S and it was preceded about 10 minutes earlier by C130 KC-3801 c/s IFC2515 both inbound Coningsby...routed on airways to just North East of London

Gents,

Both the above and the four Su-30s are now on the deck at Coningsby. The C-17 is unloading on the main ASP as I type, the rest are on the South side at VAS.

Hi to all those that have been lucky enough to catch the SU-30's to-date and anyone who may have simply been tracking them on scanners, apps etc.!

A couple of quick questions please from an interested observer, not a photographer, who hopes to get the chance to visit Coningsby tomorrow, Tues. 28th.

1) Has there been a pattern to the movements so far, by this of course I mean launch / recover times? Am travelling from the NW via Sheffield in the morning then departing to Nottingham to meet the 'other half' off a train so want to plan both our journey times to suit, and not keep her waiting!

2) I know this will be weather (wind direction) dependent but, to-date, where have the best viewing locations been for those without long lenses?

Much thanks in advance for any help and information provided. And to those who have posted photos, they're great, thank you!

Cheers,
M

Initially there was mention the transports would be taking part in the exercises with the Brize fleet, have they moved at all, since arriving?

Yep

The C-130 has flown twice.. and the IL-78 has also flown at least twice. The IL-78 is currently over the North Sea tanking the SU-30s

Somewhat embarrassing for the RAF as the IAF beat them 12-0 in WVR combat:

The Indians are probably getting their own back after British comments from a few years back.

http://twocircles.net/2011jul24/british ... cR1UyZVhBd

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho ... 44466.html

Responding to the Indian claims, the RAF source they were clearly designed for the “domestic audience”. He told The Independent: “There must have been some clouded recollection on the flights back to India, as the headlines of the Indian press bear no relation to the results of the tactical scenarios completed on the exercise in any shape or form.”

I must admit that i'm not so dubious.

I think the ability to hang on the thrust vectored engines and constantly turn 'on a dime' with a circling typhoon while the Typhoon needs energy to turn / fly and therefore cannot turn as fast (although we know it can turn fast) is feasible.

However the BVR engagements might be a totally different matter i think........... (i hope).
