I think that the scrapping of the Nimrods was probably the best idea ever made by any government, they were originally built at Woodford with wooden jigs which changed shape depending on the moisture in the atmosphere. They were a mess when they were originally delivered to the RAF and were in a much bigger mess when they were delivered back at enormous expense to be re-created into the joke that was the MRA4.

Nimrod has had its time. MRA4 should have been scrapped long before it was. If we got involved in the P-8 project early then we would have got a better deal and more say over the aircraft's design.

It was Labour that decided to update the Nimrods which was disastrous for numerous technical reasons. The Tories were right to have cancelled the Nimrod update, but they were wrong not to have immediately ordered a new fleet of maritime patrol aircraft which they appear at long last about to do.

You also seem to have completely forgotten that the MRA.4 was about to enter service, when the Conservatives scrapped them, the 'update' as you refer to it had already been completed Aircraft had been built, flown and tested... £5.2 BILLION of public money had already been spent on them, the conservatives axed them due to their £100 Million per year running costs.

"About to enter service" - are you having a laugh? The MRA.4 was a disaster looking for a place to happen.

Luckily the government could see the disaster coming and scrapped them.
